I can see why he'd say that.
Building a rule around the "unnatural position" of a player's hand is ridiculous. Can't really blame the ref when he's just following the law.
So it isn't ridiculous to give it, as it is the law of the game. Which is why the ref gave it.

Pretty much.
The law is deliberate and in an unnatural position. The ref basically has to consider the position of the arm when deciding if it is deliberate or not. Remember the rule is DELIBERATE handball.
