Like the Duncan Edwards comment, sadly taken from us, shame we wouldn't have seen him and what he would have been.

It's true. Zizou only orchestrated great wins when he had exceptional team mates. With France he played alongside, Henry, Desailly, Djorkaeff, Vieira, Pires, Petit, Thuram etc. Likewise with the other Galacticos at Madrid.

He was an expert at pulling the strings but he was relatively easy to defend against due to his lack of pace. Most PL defences would just crowd him out. He didn't have enough goals in his locker either. His PB for a La Liga season was 9 goals (same as Ozil).

Zidane would be an awful pick. He was always overrated & couldn't tear teams apart on his own.

Zidane!

I would go as far as I think Riquelme was better than Zidane, I just don't think it worked out for him.

I personally think he could have gone on to be a legend of the game but due to issues with managers, clubs etc etc, He eventually went back to South America and is kind of a forgotten player.

Mex for appreciating my comment without the 's which I am probably open to from some of the younger posters who never got to see him orchestrate a game.

like Stephane Guivarch? Zidane was a genius, although i dont agree he's the greatest ever, i dont even think he's the greatest French player of all time

The idea that Zidane only played well in great teams is akin to the classic "messi couldn't do it on a cold night in stoke"... We will never know how he would do... Just like we will never know how well ZZ would have done with lesser players, but most if us can work it out.

I don't think that is completely true, but I also don't completely agree with the initial point either.

Zidanes magic was with the ball, which was more effective when his team mates were moving around well, in games with little movement, he wasn't as good as lets say Messi at making something happen from nothing.

Can't remember the game but zz controlled a 40 yard hard hit pass arriving over his shoulder and when his foot hit the floor the ball was dead still not even spinning.

My god it was breath taking.

Brazilian Ronaldo is the best player ive ever seen Loz, at 19/20 years old at Barca, he's the only player ive ever seen who was literally unplayable, because he was faster than everyone, stronger than everyone and more talented than everyone there's a goal he scores vs Compostela where there's about 3 defenders hanging off him he beats them all and sticks it in the back of the net, the camera pans to Bobby Robson on the Barca bench stood with his hands on his head in sheer disbelief at what he's just seen

this is a brilliant video of him, people who call Ronaldinho the most skilful player ever obviously didnt see ronaldo, he was doing all the tricks before Ronaldinho was a professional footballer

Would have loved to see Eusabio play.

Cantona. Him and Jose at the same club would put the media into a permanent state of orgasm.

Lesser reason: we need a great striker badly
