If Utd were not held back by glazers crippling debt we would have paid that money for Hazard no question.

Are you thick? This is nothing to do with the Glazers. We were prepared to pay for Hazard, Sir Alex backed out because he felt the agent fees were too much. There's always enough money at the club to pay for the top tier of players. The Mata signing showed that, it's just the board were incompetent last summer.

There aren't gonna be days where we can purchase Vidic, Ronaldo or Evra for low fees anymore.

Disagree with this. There will always be bargain buys about if you look hard enough.

Fergie makes a decent point. On the face of it, and with the benefit of hindsight, £34m for Hazard is a bargain. However, it was a heck of a lot of money for an unknown talent. On the top of it, the agents fee was ridiculous. £34m and £6m agent fees. That is a joke.

Remember, ultimately you have to justify your expenditure with FFP. Spending above your means is out of the question.

I think considering his age and potential, he was a risk worth taking considering we haven't had anyone of Ronaldo's qualities in the team for a long time.

I've not seen any bargain buys purchased by European clubs over the last few years. I'd say if you were Madrid or Barca you could probably haggle a lower fee for some players.

Hazard was very well known at France as well, it wasn't like he recently came out of a cave.

Got that one wrong, Fergie. Hazard is a player we should have been going all out for.

I know we signed RVP, and he was ultimately the difference between us winning the league and not, but it was a lot of money for a short term gain.

The potential Hazard has, in my opinion, makes for much better value than RVP at £24m. I know he may have gone to City, but maybe it would have been a risk worth taking and we may have still won the league even without RVP given all the problems that were happening at City with Mancini?

I remember reading Sky Sports saying Hazard was all set for United, he wanted the move but then the agent fees ruined it for Ferguson. Such a shame.

Vidal was a bargain for Juve. I think he was like £8m.

I know what you mean, Arab, but there are bargains there. Plus you have to take into account inflation.

£12m for Ronaldo seems like a bargain now, but in 2003 it was a lot of money.

If we scout and negotiate well I'm sure we can find some more, even if we still do have to pay a little over the odds because we are United.

What's annoying is that Fergie wanted to pay so much over the odds for players like Young, Jones and Smalling but not for a potential star like Hazard.

I don't really think that anything has changed in that respect. There will always be bargain buys out there. It is just that the market is inflated at the top end because of all the oil money about and the agents are taking advantage of this by increasing their fees to get a bigger slice. The clubs with oil money don't really care if the agent is now getting 2 or 3 times what they used to and are happy to pay. But there are still bargains out there.
