You mean like paying £24m for a 29 year old in the last year of his contract?
I do think Fergie will generally favour a younger British player, however. If you're looking at value, which he does, you may pay over the odds for English players but its likely that they will stay at the club a lot longer because we are the biggest club in the country.

By "foreign", I generally meant foreign leagues. Should have made that clear.
Oh I get you. Hard to say. I doubt he didn't trust signing players from foreign leagues, after all some of his best signings have come from abroad, but I do think he preferred to sign players from the prem as he had more success with it.
I definitely think he did, can't remember too many big signings from foreign leagues in his last few years at the club. Although I'm probably missing some obvious ones
I think the risk element when spending big has always been taken on domestic players more often than players from abroad, and you only have to look at our record signings to support that.
But I do think some of that can be put down to being turned down, outbid or simply not paying enough for some of the players, to be fair.
