D'J,

Didn't Pearce win a League Cup under Clough?

Another very good midfielder for a time, who I don't think won anything was Rob Lee. Worth a place in that team.

An alternative 11 – very few of these lads would make most people’s fist or even second choice lists, but still a cracking side.

Friedel - Blackburn

Dix – West Ham ( actually had to edit the spelling )
Campbell - Portsmouth
McGrath – Derby Co
Pearce – Forest

Kewell - Liverpool
Ince – Wolves
Davids – Spurs
Juninho - Boro

Gullit – Chelsea
Ferdinand – Newcastle

Subs: David James - Aston Villa, Lucas Radebe – Leeds, Tim Cahill – Everton, LeTiss – Southampton, Collymore - Leicester

Here is my effort without trying to manipulate the clubs played for thing too much - ie picking players in their prime (tricky task!):

-------------------------

Personally, I love it when an all time great rocks up at a smaller club touching 40. George Weah at City? Excellent stuff.

The last player to score a goal in front of the standing Kop. What a travesty.

what team is that?

im confused because it has carr and martyn in, so cant be the best ever 11, but then it has Ronaldo, Henry and Shearer in, so it cant be second best

Sorry LD, I meant to say last the Liverpool player to score in front of the Kop. You are correct.

No matter, it was still a travesty considering the players we had on the pitch that day.

Carr was a solid player, I like him, and I can't have been the only one after all he did get in the PFA Team of the Year in both 00/01 and 02/03.

Was tricky filling in the GK and RB as they were the two I had left with most of the big clubs already gone

what about an 11 who you personally just liked the player, like he made you laugh he was so rubbish, was a bit of a nut job or a cult hero but not a top player. Id go for

lehman
mcshane ruddock senderos d traore
cattermole barton
that tramp fergie bought . a mcgeady(tragic player just awful)
luis the legend garcia
heskey

In a team that never won nothing, Colin Cooper and Steve Watson would be decent shouts at the back. Both pretty solid Premiership defenders.

The latter being one of a few Toon players who somehow never picked up a single medal in that 90s era.

I was actually watching their demolition job on Utd when Albert lobbed Schmeichel not too long ago, wondering how they never won a tap.

Ah, no probs, I thought I was not imagining it, I remember it as I was there, but yes you are right, of all the Liverpool players to last score it had to be him.
