Mate at work is a big Reading fan. Says Ejaria is having a great start to the season. They all think their new rich owner will buy him. He flopped at Rangers but he is loving it at Reading. I remember watching him in the under 23’s at one point and he liked like a young Yaya Toure. He went down hill after that and had some really poor performances but he seems to have regained his game again. Hope we get some good money for him

Ojo disappeared too, never fancied ejaria to make it, but could net us a good fee.

So vaping isn’t a risk free alternative to smoking after all. I’m shocked 🙄

It never was, was it?

They have always said it does 5% of the damage smoking does with regards to the "plain" chemicals, and that flavours etc add additional risks, still well below smoking.

I havent seen whatever news you are referring too, but its never been championed as safe, which is why the NHS couldnt recommend it.

First confirmed death caused from vaping in the US, and plenty more cases of lung disease.

I take it with a massive dose of cynicism any ‘facts’ about how much safer it is than smoking. Basically, the cigarette companies could see the detrimental effect the massive campaign about the dangers of smoking and steps being taken to try and steer people away from it, would have on their long term profits, so they had to find a ‘better’ alternative.

I don’t think anyone knows with any certainty what the long term effects are. Would you be surprised that in 20-30 years it was revealed that it’s hardly any safer than smoking?

Yes I would, for the simple fact that your lungs can deal with water vapour, but smoke is a preservative that we have coated foods with for thousands of years to preserve it and prevent natural functions.

Im not a fan of an argument that says 1 person has died in the last 5 years from vaping so its as bad as cigarettes which have killed over a million in the same timeframe.

That’s a nice twisting of what I said..... It’s not a case of one person dying in five years, is it? How many people die from smoking within five years of starting? Probably none, it usually takes decades for the effects of smoking to effect most people. So if it’s true that this person has died as a result of vaping, along with others that have been affected, then surely that’s alarming, considering how short a time it’s been in widespread use?

Also, it’s not pure water vapour that you’re putting into your lungs, it’s a cocktail of chemicals. We don’t know what the long term effects are going to be.

I havent twisted anything, smoking isnt inherently better for you because you are giving yourself a longer time to do, the fact is that all smokers will die of smoking related illnesses.

I am also aware of the cocktail of chemicals in vaping, and its still less than those deadly chemicals that are prevelant in cigarette smoke.

You only exhale a small percentage of smoke you inhale, the body has no good functions for dealing with such a sticky preservative and it takes an insane amount of time to clear relative to the water vapor which is in relation to smoke the main element of the vice.

I agree wholeheartedly that vaping isnt ideal, but its still a LOT better than smoking, will become much better regulated than it already is and isnt comparable in any way on the cost to health,

Your original post on the subject gave them a false equivalence

Again, you don’t know what the long term effects of vaping are going to be. Just because they’re not the same as smoking, doesn’t mean they’re going to be any less damaging in a different way. Virtually everything that we put into our body for ‘enjoyment’, be it chemical or food/drink turns out to be bad for us if consumed in large amounts over a long period. And the damage that they cause have only come out much later......

These tobacco companies are ruthless, and it would be no surprise if they knew more about the long term effects than they let on, exactly like they did with smoking.

It is not a fact at all that all smokers will die of a smoke related illness. My grandfather smoked over twenty a day from he was 18 to 77. He died with infection after having Alzheimer's for several years.

It certainly has a massive impact on the health of people, which is why it's one of the first questions your doctor asks you. I worked in a hospital for a couple of years in my early twenties, part of my role was to place people in CT scans for the heart, from the waiting list. I would say 80% of those people were smokers. For me that can't be coincidence. It was heartbreaking when I had to remove people as they had died before their appointment but the final straw first me came when I was asked to put a consultant to the top of the list. I left a week later.

We simply don't know the long term effects of vaping as we don't have the data nor the timeframe but I wouldn't be surprised if it has a similar effect, or even worse in the same timeframe.

It's also worth noting that firstly according to the article on the BBC, most of these cases were people vaping THC. We know THC doesn't have the effect that these people experienced and therefore it can be one of two things that caused it, the fact that it is vapour or the chemicals they have mixed in with it which potentially is also used in nicotine vapours.

Toor you know I'm sure that the research done in to smoking is linked with just about every illness you can get, be it due to the insane number of chemicals in the blood, the reduced oxygen circulating your body, the loss of bloodflow due to blocked veins and arteries and yes, infections as a result of these things, brain injuries, strokes and yes even dementia and alzheimers.
