Not really about me to be fair. I'd play when she's in bed anyway. More my 7 year old who we made a conscious decision to keep away from consoles and gaming until at least 13.

If you do get it you can put certain parental locks on it etc so that he can't be on it all the time.
Have a minimum time and then he can earn additional 30min blocks of time for the weekend based on his behaviour etc through the week.

And it’ll be incredibly difficult imo to keep him away from them until he’s 13, in this day and age. It’s a great intention and I admire it, but when all his mates are playing and talking about them there’s a chance he could feel left out. Could get messy at home under those circumstances.....

Yeah, he hasn't helped himself though cos when we've been at his uncle's, who has one, and on holiday and there had been one, hes acted like a brat and wanted to do nothing but play it.... which is exactly why he isn't allowed one of his own. He's incredibly sporty and has decent talent for football but especially cricket. I want to harvest that as much as possible to be honest... like you say though, these are different times.

I'm not sure that's the best solution. Hes only 7 at the moment. He doesn't "need" one. When he gets a bit older I get it more, especially with social and peer pressures.

We bought a wii when she was that kind of age. The games are far more suited to younger kids and more family orientated, so you can all play on it. Maybe that’s a happy medium?
Hope everyone is fine in the UK, US, and everywhere. Here in the Middle East and where I live schools closed but most still go to work. Others work from home. No lock downs. Luckily I have a Gym in my house otherwise I would be dead bored. I go out for a walk every day just outside the house and still go to work but no meetings and no gatherings.
My sister kept her kids away from technology, games etc and her eldest was being bullied over it recently says more about the other kids than hers but that's little consolation to a 9 year old
She now let's them earn set time on the computer with chores or outside time, it's a better balance.
Also depends on the game types, loads of games i played developed hand eye co-ordination, puzzle solving and logic (especially the og n64 Zelda games) my other sister lets her 15 year old play cod and gta as much as he wants, and its facking stupid. (he's got learning difficulties and has a mental age of an 8 year old)
Its also one of those issues that in modern society kids need access to games and computers etc, there's a 90% chance their future jobs will entail computer knowledge and the basis of that comes at a young age messing around with technology, it gives you an understanding of it you won't get from school.

I'm not sure that's the best solution. Hes only 7 at the moment. He doesn't "need" one. When he gets a bit older I get it more, especially with social and peer pressures.
