Even if Conte did come in, you might get more solidity with a different formation but how well would a 5-3-2 suit his midfield and attacking players?

You'd potentially be able to play both Brruno and Pogba there, but what would happen to Sancho as he isn't a CF or an AM really unless he was moulded into one potentially. Martial and Rashford are both better from wide positions as well.

I could see it working potentially, but they've got too much of an imbalance within the squad at the moment.

Ronald's not that much of a problem imo...although if they ignored the holding midfielder position to sign him then yeah. He's the problem.

Ronaldo has never been a pressing player at any point in his career. I don't know why there's now narrative for him to press. It's those around him that need to put in the collective effort...but one of them is also Bruno who has been a 'luxury' player himself for Utd.

They need to dominate possession to get the best out of their attackers and starve the opposition of the ball in the process...but not with that current midfield or their current defence, Varane excluded.

Bit of good news on our midfield injuries, Naby didn’t need crutches after the game and Fab is expected to return for the Brighton game. Thiago shouldn’t be to far off now either.

They have holding midfielders. Problem is Ronaldo and Bruno clash like they did in the Euros. Bruno and Pogba lack discipline to play in midfield which is down to coaching. Even if they have Kante he would have too much too do because the rest of the midfield isn't pulling weight which has been further compounded by a 37 year botox merchant who doesn't run.

Great news, though I hope Curtis gets to play too somehow - he was in good form before the injury

I could see Conte playing Sancho as RWB, if he got a tune out of Victor Moses playing there then you'd imagine he could with Sancho.

Whichever manager they get in will have to deal with the squad imbalance, at least Conte will get them working hard.Turn them into a difficult team to beat. If they're difficult to beat then the moments of brilliance from their attackers become winners.

Is it wrong that I'd quite like them to stuff Spurs to relieve some of the pressure on Ole

Yeah Spurs v United is absolutely a win win for us.

Klopp would have done something with Sancho

Sancho, Greenwood, Rashford, even Martial. Give them to Klopp and watch them destroy the league.

They've got Matic as a holding midfielder who isn't up to the quality of what everyone else has in that midfield but other than that, they don't have any real dedicated holding midfielders.

Interesting that you talk about the rest of the midfield pulling their weight. I didn't know you understood that concept <bigrin>

He’ll be nailed on to start the Brighton game!

The back three could be Lindelof, Maguire and Varane but they don't have specific players in other positions to do a certain job in a back three system.

This Utd team lack a Brozovic or Jorginho type of player at the base of midfield. Conte also likes a physical big player upfront which Utd don't have at this moment. Pogba and Fernandes would fit his system as the most advanced two midfield players.

A big rebuilding job for the next manager again.

My favourite part was on 8:00 when Fred tries to stop Konate and can hardly get him arms around him

Konate’s definitely been held back to give him time to settle in and get to grips with our systems. He’s going to be a beast.

I like how Klopp does that, Konate started a big game yesterday with no baggage while someone like Sancho is benched to protect him

posted on 26/10/21

I said the other day I thought Konate may be ahead of Matip after that performance which admittedly a bit premature in hindsight but I don't think he is far off by any means.

posted on 26/10/21

Yeah I remember you saying that, fair point as he wasn't exactly cheap.

Yeah Klopp does that, did the same to Robbo, then Tsimikas and now Ibou.

Saw that “major stars” rallied around Ole.

Of course they did and I’m sure Maguire was one of those.
They know they are vastly overpaid and they need to stay on that gravy train with Ole at the wheel.

Anyone seen the animation of our win with “Oles at the wheel” and the blow up doll?
