Another potential twist in this transfer saga?

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are close to an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of Romeo Lavia.

What this means for Liverpool and Caicedo remains to be seen!

"Chelsea want to bring in two midfielders in this window and one source has told Sky Sports News they are interested in signing both Caicedo and Lavia," it is claimed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That would make their midfield 3 worth in excess of £250m.

Do the rules not apply to Chelsea or something?

I just don’t believe it tbh. Key words are ‘source’ and ‘interested’. Very vague….

I doubt Chelsea are lacking funds, Boehlys a pupper for the Saudis. Might have issues doing more business and wage bill without being investigated further and dug out for what they're doing.

Yeah something is not right there. No way are Chelsea paying £160m for both Caicedo and Lavia. That's doesn't make much sense considering only one can start. You'd think their priority in midfield would be a creative goalscorer not two defensive midfielders for £160m.

Some games at play here I'd say.

Well yes, but they they also brought a feck of players last year as well. This is not a one off spending spree, that would be understandable, but ridiculous spending over 2 years. Doesn’t add up. Literally.

kai havertz too. theyve spent 210m and sold 255m worth. still 45m profit this window. Ofc its all done over a period of a few years, they prob are close to breaking rules if they havent already you'd imagine. They still made losses on most those theyve sold.

You need to stop talking about this season’s dealings, it’s irrelevant.

They've made £50M this year, they lost £550M last year
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also they're supposedly about to spend £160m on two defensive midfielders. So £660m?

Something is not right. Perhaps they're thinking they'll take the small punishment in the beginning as it will benefit them long term with the long contracts and youthful recruitment.

Yeah means nothing theyve recouped 255m this window from sales, absolutely nothing, ignore it wont help them one bit.

Yeah Chelsea signing Lavia and Caicedo makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Not for their squad or their finances.

I wonder if they’ve bid on Lavia to counter our bid for Caicedo, feels like a stalemate to me at the moment.

Klopp will never again admit an incomplete transfer in the media

And still spent around 180m so far, so they’ve not really chipped away that much, have they?

Not seen it, but thought he only said that we’d reached agreement with Brighton, which is a fact.

If it's true they want Caicedo, Lavia and Olise then even with the £240m in sales you're still talking a net spend of £150m

Let’s put it straight, we’ve been put in our place and dog walked by Chelsea.

A real hammer blow for the club. This will be one of those transfers that got away that we speak about for years to come.

Boehly & Eghbali have taken over negotiations. Strategic games.

Liverpool have not removed their bid for Caicedo. Chelsea want the bid removed, as Caicedo has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea & then Chelsea won’t have to go above Liverpool’s bid.

Brighton have asked Liverpool to keep their bid in, so Chelsea forced to bid again.

As a retaliation, Chelsea (similar to Liverpool with Caicedo) have put a £50m overall package bid in for Romeo Lavia to Southampton that has been accepted.

Chelsea will happily take the player, they love Lavia, but equally they want to try & force Liverpool to remove their bid for Caicedo & instead move for Lavia.

Lots of moving parts.
