Yep.
Also, when we go after a player at another club, it seems one of our players always gets linked to that club at the same time.

Eddie Howe, to @TimesSport, on Alexander Isak’s future: “We have a bit of time (to find a replacement). The issue we have is that we haven’t just lost Alex but also Callum Wilson from last season so we are definitely actively looking to recruit.”

The way Howe talks about this is bizarre. Can’t imagine the club will be happy with him talking about losing Isak.

Hopefully. But Brentford would have sold Wissa irrespective. Wissa wants to go and even if they trigger the additional 12 months in his contract, they’ll get less next summer.
They’re a selling club, it’s about finding the right price. What they do damn well though is replace. Sold Andre Gray, Scott Hogan, Neal Maupay, Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney and now Mbuemo and Wissa. They’ve sold them all for good money and replaced well each time. I hope they do again because Brentford are a club I have a lot of time for.

Yeah, the two strikers they had last season aren’t available to them now. He’s saying he has no strikers available for selection, so they need to buy at least one.
Sure, he could be acknowledging that Isak is leaving, but could easily be the alternative. My point was it could be either.

Yeah, I find it extremely unlikely that Howe would go rogue in this way.
Howe may want Isak out tbh. I probably would as the manager which may be the basis for some of these comments.
Gotta talk about something I guess
I think Howe has always sort of been resigned to Isak leaving. It's those above him with the small man syndrome

I think he probably does, but I can’t see him going up against his paymasters in this way. He’ll know there’s the constant threat of them bringing in a higher profile manager.

He's less likely to get sacked if he gets results on the pitch and it seems he feels he can't do that with Isak around the place.
Howe is just the Mark Hughes of this Newcastle project

I think he’s a very good manager. But you’ve just got to think there could come a time when they decide to go for the high profile option, especially with all the problems they’ve had with recruitment.
You underestimate what Hughes did with Blackburn before City appointed him
Ye 100%. Managing superstars is a very different job too and not every good manager has the extra ability to do that step up.

Nothing against Hughes (I'm Welsh for a start) but do think Howe is better
Found this a quite interesting discussion topic (maybe not) but a pundit was saying they are not sure what is harder, Slot coming in to a very settled squad, or having to integrate a lot of new players under far more pressure.
I do think we’ve had too much change tbh, and there’s likely more to come.
In my honest opinion, the squad was long overdue a revamp though.
We could go down the previous route and wait for everything to collapse before our very eyes and then make changes, like we did with the midfield in 2023 and the attack in 2021
Or we can be honest with ourselves, take stock and do everything now while we can, from a position of strength and reassess from here on out.
Be honest...bar Salah and one season from Diaz, the attack wasn't all that. Now in 2 years time he's not going to be there anymore. We can't still be waiting for players like Nunez and whoever to still come correct. It needed change.
It's the same with the defence. In 2 years time, bar whatever happens with Konate, none of that back would be here. Trent is already gone. Robertson is done. Van Dijk will probably retire. It needs a overhaul.
