must be why we've moved so quickly for leoni, otherwise we'd have only 2 cbs at the weekend

Seems a bit short sighted if true. If we lose Konate or VVD for any length of time, it’s a risk to rely on an 18 year old who’s settling into a new country.

Apparently, Palace changed their stance overnight, which is what they kept doing with Newcastle. I guess we’ve decided not to stand for it.

Nice…..

Chelsea will use a portion of Club World Cup bonuses paid to players to make a financial donation to the family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

@TheAthleticFC Chelsea & the club's players have decided to give an equal portion of the club's $15.5m Club World Cup bonus fund (around $500k per player) to family of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva following the tragic death of the two brothers this summer.

I read an article a wee while back about Leoni and it raved about his potential and skill set, they mentioned Yoro from Man Utd as well and said these two would be top level DCs pretty soon if they continued to get game time so I think you might have found a possible gem, he should get games in cups or injury cover I'd assume even if/when Guehi arrives?

Very classy from Chelsea that.

Gomez could be on the bench tomorrow. Which is great, but feels a bit futile, as the second he gets off it he’ll probably get injured.

Marc Guehi deal looks like it could happen next season now:-

Liverpool still in talks for Guehi
Latest from Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol:

Liverpool remain in talks for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and are favourites to sign the England international.

The question is whether they can negotiate a fee now or wait to sign him as a free agent next summer.

Sky Sports News previously reported there was a gap in valuation between the two Premier League sides.

Palace will not let their captain go on the cheap and Liverpool know they can wait until next summer to sign him on a free transfer.

Looks as though we will allow Konate to run his contract down and leave on a free and then sign Guehi on a free.

I hate Real Madrid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry LD but that made me laugh. You hate RM for doing to us exactly what the article suggests we're about to do to Palace.

I really think this is just going to become the new normal. The fees for players these days are astronomical so clubs wanting out of contract players, it's understandable. But for the players as well, the wages and signing on fees they can command it must be so tempting. But importantly for the players, it puts them in charge of their career. The club can't just decide to stop your career progressing to a higher level - Isak being the most recent example. I think exit clauses will become more common and out of contract moves become more common.

its a downgrade eitehr way

I think Guehi gets done around deadline day tbh. Palace need the money and I think we meet somewhere in the middle.

With Leoni in play I’m less fussed about getting Guehi done, Leoni sounds like an upgrade on Quansah from what I’ve read so we’re still better than last season.

It's not exactly the same as we are offering to buy Guehi now as opposed to tapping him up to run down his contract like Madrid do.

Yes, it's not as if we tapped him up two or three years ago to entice him to run down his contract, which obviously happened with TAA as all of a sudden he was speaking fluent Spanish, something you do not get after learning it for a few months.

Not seen how Madrid how play under Alonso but if Trent is given license like he was under Klopp then Konate would be mad to go Madrid.

He'll get injured half the season again covering for the Trent.

Well if reports are to be believed madrid are willing to buy him but for no more than 25m. So yeah its exactly the same.

We wont sell at that as its massively under value. Quite rightly so.

By the same token palace dont want to sell Guehi at 35m as they feel thats under value. Thats their perogative.

We cant moan. Its the same as all the newcastle fans up in arms about the isak thing when their club is doing the exact same thing to brentford with wissa.

This stuff has been going on for years and will continue to do so

posted on 14/8/25

Konate has got a little mate now so hopefully he’ll want to stay and sign a contract. Similar to Chiesa will probably stay now to help Leoni settle in.

posted on 14/8/25

be crazy to sell konate for 25m and sign a lesser player for 35m who has the same contract length

posted on 14/8/25

Where has this stuff come from? About Konate hating having to cover for Trent

posted on 14/8/25

Apparently Palace want 50m for Guehi.

posted on 14/8/25

I wouldn't pay that. VVD, Konate, Gomez and Leoni could be what we will have until at least January.

Thought spurs were excellent, very unlucky to not win that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. Considering the opponent, they were very good.

Not hard given the sh*t show last year, but they should do much better this year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They didnt bottle it vs utd thats all that matters, we should lay off them for that alone.
