I agree with Winston here, where do you draw the line on "allowing someone to have a differing opinion"? If I said this top is blue and 98 others said it is blue, do we have to say that the one person that says it is red is entitled to their opinion?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a bit different because you have a factual frame of reference. The colour spectrum for a start. We are talking about subjective issues and penalties are problematic because a stonewall penalty to one fan is a dive to another
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you "accept" my opinion then if I said that Luis Suarez had never dived - because it is subjective?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd strongly disagree but it's your opinion. I would think your nuts but you have a right to it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're mad then mate. Personally, I'm quite opinionated and stand by my opinions but if 99 people said they saw something in a certain way I would question myself, look at the incident again and re-assess.
Perfect example is Di Maria's pass to Mata against QPR - in real time, and replays I thought it was a great pass. It was only when I read the BBC report the next day that said "Di Maria's scuffed shot fell kindly to Mata" that I re-watched with an alternative viewpoint.
Anyone who thinks that was a penalty is a bloody idiot and the fact Vardy is getting praised for his cheating as well..
Hilarious stuff

Now now Greg, we're having a sensible discussion here and I feel we're making progress.
Robben I'm not saying you can't change your opinion or be influenced by others, I'm talking about being able to express your view without being insulted that's all.
Imagine Ashley Young winning two penalties for us, winning the game and getting globally praised for it....
He would get death threats, world war 3 would start and nuclear bombs will be fired.

Well, in that case why, despite 99 other opinions, can your mate there not revisit his opinion and look at the incident neutrally? I know you can, but I do wonder for others blindly making a wholly biased opinion and refusing to change it.
Greg - exactly, they'd be up in arms.
Greg, he dived for the pen but aside from that he put in a good performance
Ashley Young has dived for a pen and put in a good performance before and still has missiles fired at him.
Why is Vardy getting praised for what Ashley Young does?
Is it because we're Man United?
Oh look, a few dodgy decisions against united, who cares, shove it under the carpet just like every other decision we get against us (nearly every game by the way).
When we get a decision, it goes into the Official Man United dodgy decision reference book and will be in memory for thousands of years and thousand years down the line people will still be saying how Howard Webb gave us a penalty one day.
the Official Man United dodgy decision reference book

Can you get a copy on Amazon? Or is it a virtual book stored in the minds of all non-Utd fans?
It's a virtual book, every decision immediately accessible by every football fan on the planet.
BlackStarr (U12353)
Fair enough.
I just think the 'everyone is entitled to an opinion' line is a bit of a cop out, and allows even the most absurd statement to be treated with dignity, when it doesn't deserve it.
It's all perceptions Greg. What doesn't help Young is that he rarely puts in a good performance
As long as someone's opinion isn't discriminatory and doesn't make others feel oppressed or insulted then really its free speech as voltaire said "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I feel discriminated by your opinion that it should have been a penalty - I feel excluded and offended, therefore you should change your opinion
I think there's a difference between dismissing someone's opinion, and telling them that they have no right to say it!
Personally, I think ref's see this new period in United's history as a chance to get some payback for all the Fergie watch-prodding antics, the blasts at fourth officials, the deciding who is and who isn't going to officiate at Old Trafford and all the other 'incidents' over the years.
The other thing to remember (and I realise that most of us on these boards already realise this but it's worth saying it again) is that the officials get ONE CHANCE to make a decision from one angle in real time. They don't get the countless replays from every angle, slowed down in high definition that TV viewers get. And they make mistakes as well.
I'm not excusing the Vardy incident for the first pen here, as from where we were sat half way back in SK3, most people around us said they were suprised Battenburg didn't give a foul against Vardy in the build up to the pen, but the ball possibly going out for the cross for Ulloa's goal was just too fast and too tight to call from the ref/lino's view.
At the end of the day, sh it happens and it can go for you or against you.
Batternbergs just a sheet ref.
Why do they put themselves at this angles where they cannot see properly and IF they cannot see properly then why make the fecking call that will most probably ruin the match?
Fox_14 (U2869)
You're talking nonsense there.
Under Ferguson, we had plenty of howling decisions against us.
The main difference was the resilience of the team in not allowing those errors to make a difference.
The rest of your post I agree with though.
Why are united fans acting like they are the first and only team to get a bad decision against them?

You might be better off quoting Enid Blyton than Voltaire on this thread, since simple fiction seems to be the preference.
