our injuries are the reason for our decline in football
can't blame valencia for that. we've always had unspectacular yet commitred versatile players in the squad i.e. o'shea, wes brown, phil neville etc
it all makes up a squad, cant have superstars in every position
if someone offered £10m for rafa i'd take. i dont think anyone would though.
but if they did i'd buy a more reliable right back. not an ageing alves, colemans seems a good choice. havent seen enough of clynne to comment but seems a good prospect.

I'm going back years not this season.
I'm not saying we should have superstars in every position. And yes those players you mentioned were very good squad players.
You know why? Because they actually DID a job. Valencia doesn't.
Valencia is pretty limited and yes he has given us god service but I would like to see us move on and get a few far more technical players who can use both feet. I like Clyne and Coleman but as long as Rafa stays fit I am happy with him. Great kid.
Would like to see us buy a top right winger with pace. Plenty of good players around

Coleman as a right back and a new winger, who depends on what's available.
No he doesn't have to put in 10/10 Beckham like crosses every game to justify his position, but he puts in one out of ten crosses a game which does not justify his position.
He's also a poor defender, so his defensive qualities don't warrant a place either.
Well done he set up one goal and shanked a shot that went in off the defender in two games we were poor and fortunate to get six points.
That does not make him United standard - or the standard we aspire to, that is. It's players like Valencia being in the squad that have seen such a decline in our football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Great post! Exactly my thoughts.
Had a debate about this after the last United game about Valencia and there was some ridiculous comments trying to defend Valencia.
Exactly. We want to be catching teams like Bayern, Real, Barca and closing the gap not widening it.
We need better players in several players to do this.
Quality, pace and better technical ability. We are a work in progress, The Iron Tulip's work and is canvas is about a third completed. Hopefully he can produce his own masterpiece !

we know you and DKTF hate valencia, and back each other up on it
no point even commenting if you are not going to provide an objective opinion
valencia is rubbish, no if and buts
he is having his best season in the last 3 years playing as a wing back, where much of the defending his don by his rcb and I can count his forward contribution on one hand.
It's not that he is even rubbish, he just is not of sufficient quality for what we should be striving for. I get behind him as much as I can when we play but never any progress or anything to get excited about with him. A very frustrating player with little football brain. Yes he works hard and is very physical but that's it !
I'd be pleased with Coleman. I think he would make a great RWB, if last year was anything to go off of. Not impressed with Barkley really and too many players in his position anyway.
Coleman and Strootman would be a decent window tbh. A CB would be spectacular too but only if we can get one of the good ones like Godin.
calling valencia rubbish is just not on. he has crap crosses but everything else about his game is fine. nothing wrong with the defensive side of his game.
danny welbeck was brilliant at everything but score goals and he got the same sort of abuse here. our fans just need some easy targets to bash every season.
valencia has contributed with decent performances in our unbeaten run (as well as the games against chelsea/city). he has played fine and not put a foot wrong and done what the managers asked of him. that to me is not someone who is rubbish and should be sold asap.
our injury prone players like rafa, evans, anderson (and maybe jones) are the ones that need to be shown the door
as a squad player in valencia, i don't think theres many better players out there i'd rather have (unless we had unlimited money to spend on a squad player which is daft)
Heisenberg, when you wrote something on the lines of "who cares if Valencia can cross", I completely stopped taking your defence of him seriously.

players like young, fellaini and valencia have come in and performed and been part of a 10 game unbeaten run. to say they are rubbish and don't add value to the team is daft

But he does get in the first XI and has done so under our last three managers !!
Cuadrado is a much better player with same blistering pace, creates more, is more technical and a better defender. I know we were linked with him.

well thats because you are ignorant
you don't debate and all you do is criticise. if you had half a brain in your head, some of my comments on this article would make sense
but instead, you want to focus on a comment and sensationalise it to boost some sort of ego you have to look smart on ja 606. your comments are never smart or funny (like you think they are).
were you bashing welbeck over the last few seasons because he couldnt score goals? picture that a striker who couldnt score goals. however offered other attributes which justified his selection in the team under fergie.
you are like the majority of the sheep in here who find a scapegoat and don't let up.
LVG has faith in valencia and thats goods enough for me
get over yourself.
I think Valencia is now just a short term solution for LVG. Possibly Young too even though he has improved dramatically. Well he had to.
On Coleman, some pics doing the rounds of him as young boy wearing a United shirt so looks like he supported us as a kid which can help.

if we are going back to playing traditional wingers then i suspect we will replace valencia in the summer, right now defence is priority and we cant do everything in one season.
also, cuadrado looked good in the world cup - he would cost us a fortune. i'd still keep valencia as back up and ship of rafael. just can't be bothered with the glass players anymore.

Valencia is not a right back, and he is an appalling winger. Really, appalling.
The RWB role suits him a little more because it's a formation which lets him get away with doing not very much at all. Playing 2 CFs and a number 10 means he doesn't have too much responsibility to create, and playing 3 CBs means he doesn't have too much responsibility to defend.
His job has pretty much been to offer an outlet when the game is congested. And he has the energy to get up and down the wing and carry the ball out a little when needed.
He's done a decent job, but even then you compare his performances to Young on the other side and it just shows we could be doing a hell of a lot better.
I kind of see what Heisenberg is saying. We need dependable squad players, but our squad players should be better than Valencia.
