But we're not letting him go, he's choosing to

How are we letting him go? We offered a contract, he signed elsewhere.

posted on 10/5/15

He's disrespected the club and the fans by cutting and running

I thought it was Gerrard's choice

it's such a hard choice in general though. would you really want to see him on the bench most weeks. slowly getting worse and worse?

better would have been for him to take a coaching / ambassador type role and retire

but he wants to keep playing regularly

The contract was offered too late - a complete balls-up by Brendan Rodgers - hopefully he stays as your manager next season

Souness has a point and it's something we will hear allot next season.

But he doesn't offer us enough in any position to warrant a starting place and I can't see Gerrard being happy on the bench week in week out.

Thats what pundits fail to mention, Gerrard himself said he wants to be a regular starter, like Carra he doesn't want to sit on the Liverpool bench.

How was it offered to late? It was offered at a time when we knew what Gerrard's role was gonna be and that was not automatic starter every game. Gerrard preferred to move elsewhere and play every week and we respect that.

I don't see what the issue is.

"I don't see what the issue is."

it's a manufactured issue to be used to have a go at other people in the club, not a real issue

That's why i hope we keep Kolo and to a lesser extent Johnson. It's another reason to sign Milner in the summer, experienced, level headed and a model pro for the younger players to look up to

Agreed. Souness can see this but many of our JA neurotic see no evil merchants would be very annoyed with that view.

I'd keep them and get Milner in, however that doesn't mean Gerrard wasn't offered a new contract and decided to leave. You have to respect his decision not create fantasy stories that he wasn't offered one and we let him go. It's to be expected from you, whenever we do badly you jump on every bad story and turn into Shortlight on speed.

not exactly sure what the point is here, the manager recognises this which is why the club have offered the likes of gerrard, kolo and i think johnson all new contracts, and has talked about needing to get experienced players in this window

It's not just my view though is it. When you have a greatly respected figure like Souness who suggests that more could be done to keep Gerrard at the club then his views are worthy of respect.

His comments struck a chord with me anyway. We are gradually getting further and further away from the old principals that made the club great.

So because we offered a contract to a thirty five year old, he turned it down so he could get more games in his last few years, we're moving away from our principles? You don't half talk some crap sometimes ARE.

Why don't you cast your mind back to when Souness was manager and we in your words lost our principles as he sold out ageing players and bought younger ones.

I think it's your own principles your struggling with.

No its definitely time to go and others to stand up. Someone will step up as they can't just wait for him to bail us out. Im not expecting much while the squad reshapes

Few? He had one bad season. This season hasn't been great either but he's been in and out of the side due to fitness and injury issues. Today he showed why he should be offered a new contract.

maybe we could have offered a better contract to be fair

but I don't think this is a financial decision from Gerrard

it's awkward, probably the only way to convince him to stay would be assurances of starts which would likely be a lie.

no one knows what was discussed behind closed doors so it's hard to say

johnson doesnt deserve a new contract, will be a good decision to let him go, pretty predictable to defend against and make some shocking decisions

posted on 10/5/15

Okay thats your opinion, i think hes been poor for the last 2 seasons atleast, he occasionally has spurts of good games no denying that, to old and inconsistent and past his best for me, never seen him as a leader for the team personally

Dont think he'll be offered a new contract

What we do know is both Gerrard and Rodgers have told us the reasons behind Gerrard moving on and hold a great respect for each other.

To turn that into something else is grasping at straws and borderline lunacy. You need locked up if you think we didn't offer Gerrard a contract and he preferred to play more games after BR told him he would play less(confirmed by Gerrard himself) and thus signed in the MLS.
