it needs to be there on merit, but I'd like to include a film from 60s London.
I'm currently looking at:
The Ipcress File
Repulsion
Blow-Up

Are these the best candidates? Just watching Ipcress File for the first time and it seems decent. I don't really thik Repulsion's quite good enough, and although Blow-Up is great for showcasing the swinging 60s, I'm not sure it's good enough either (although I'll recheck it).

Ipcress File for the First time?!!?

That film is a very good film, had no idea where it was going, then you get the reveal and the twist… but the way the movie is shot, it’s bloody awesome.
Had to be inspired by Orsen Wells…

A MATS Club discussion:

A.I. was the whole reason for the strikes in Hollywood last year. It’s a highly controversial topic as it is nothing more than a tool but potentially a tool that could not only cause a lot of jobs in the industry that require artistic sense and ability to disappear but also just make things feel even MORE empty.

In the end A.I. images only borrow from things humans have made. Basically ripping off many artists and just making a stew of their influential work.

It feels a bit back stabby to me now that Late Night with the Devil has been released with some (very tiny amount) A.I. imagery. It wasn’t revealed by them initially either but admitted to once online users pointed out certain things from the screenings and trailers. It was always going to trickle in slowly. However, I can’t get behind supporting this with my money. And it tears me up knowing the actors, writers and likely the majority of the crew had no idea nor choice in the matter but the indie studios have to know that it will ultimately hurt their bottom line.

Major studios won’t give a fck.

Where do you guys fall on this topic? It’s inevitable so why fight it? Or do you feel gross about it like I do?

Think it should be fought personally. I dunno a practical answer though cos people are always gonna exploit it and it'll become less obvious as time goes on, I imagine.

I have lots of friends in the industry though and not only does it affect them massively, the knock on effect into other industries as they try to find work can really be brutal.

Honestly AI is dumb, you still need to put in a tonne of work to get stuff out.....seriously go play Wordle with it fro example.

Yes it will get better, but ultimately Hollywood is generally killing itself without AI. Bad writers are the current bane of the industry

Lack of creativity has been a problem long before AI

I don't see the issue as being lack of creativity. At least not when it comes to AI

Yeh its not in relation to AI mate, just Hollywood in general. Nothing new, recycling the same sheet, pointless sequels

And the "new stuff" lacks anything remotely like a coherent storyline

I'll allow this. But his behaviour should be monitored.

Just binged the 3 Body Problem. Very good, plenty of actors you’ll all recognise, and they’ve done a pretty good job of sticking to the original story.

I just thought the first half was nothing special at all.

Jennifer Connelly just seemed out of place, most of the first half was just an echo of the first film.

from when the intensity of doing the run in under 3 mins @ top gun kicks in its awesome. The last third of the film was superb, the jet pawrn and dogfighting is truly amazing.
