You can read our spoiler reviews instead Manfrom.

Hope it's nothing bad making you miss it

Nah, the wife is in charge of hosting an Xmas party for a group of disabled adults. Was meant to be today but we have a nasty wee snow storm coming through this afternoon, so she’s having to reschedule and Thursday looks the only option.

Bit of a ball ache but what can you do

Very difficult to take anything that critics say seriously when it comes to reviewing a Star Wars movie. So many of them reviewed Last Jedi as being brilliant when we all know what steaming pile of dung it was.

No doubt Disney will again be bribing every move critic they can get their hands on.

I'll check the reviews, then the user reviews and then your reviews and then I will most likely look at the spoilers, unless in the unlikely event its a solid film!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't get this mentality tbh, unless its a cost thing given the price of the cinema now days.

If the reviews are poor, I'd still want to see it for myself. If anything it's worse reading reviews first as people tend to go into things with a decision on whether it's good or not already implanted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So I have to go in blindly to film which I'm not anticipating and give them my money?

Would you understand that trial of thought?

There’s not going in blind to knowing everything that happens.

Best thing about watching a film is not knowing what is happening.

Couldn’t think of anything worse than sitting there knowing what’s about to happen

This!

First time I've deliberately avoided all trailers pics reviews etc. If a trailer came on at the cinema over the last few months, fine, but that's the only place I want to see them now.

Maybe you guys dig this trilogy more than me?!

For me its unsalvageable, hence why I dont care about the plot etc..

However if I liked the film then I would avoid all the noise pre-hand, but I don't get why people are getting so religious about TLS?

Maybe I'm in the minority?

Nothing to do with TLS it’s more a film thing in general.

I would never go to the cinema if i already knew what was happening especially in big films.

May as well just wait to stream it a few months later.

I think I get what you guys are saying and Im pretty much the same, but this SW trilogy has been so disappointing!

I was so excited going to the cinema to watch TFA.

However the movie was a 6/10 but had potential and could've been complimented by the following 2 sequels!

So I hoped again for TLJ to build on TFA, but it turned out to be arguably the worst SW film to date.

So Im not even gonna bother building hopes up for this one and dont even care tbh, so for me its not even on the radar.

probably told them they'd never get into another premier if the reviews weren't positive....

I get your point completely about the critics and especially their reviews of the film that shouldn't be named.

That said, I have been encouraged my reactions of people that are big fans of SW. Perhaps I just want it to be great but I'm actually excited for the first time in the build up to this release.

Yes this is very De ja vu.

Wasn't the early reviews for TLJ like 9/10

Yup, some critics gave The Last Jedi a perfect 100 score including The Guardian. All there for anyone to still see on Metacritic:

https://www.metacritic.com/movie/star-wars-episode-viii---the-last-jedi

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/14/star-wars-the-last-jedi-in-depth-fan-review-i-finally-got-to-see-my-dreams-come-true

Shameful.

So I for one won't be fooled by any critic reviews for this movie and I'll expect more brilliant reviews from them even if it's as bad as Last Jedi.

posted on 17/12/19

Aye, at the time TFA or TLJ came out I posted, possibly in this thread, a bunch of reviews, hugely glowing in their praise of the movie leading up to it's release.

Of course, being the d!ck that I am, those reviews were actually for either TPM or AOTC

Just goes to show that these prescreen critics are just as much part of the industry as Disney themselves.

Well the actual reviews are out now and they seem a lot more measured than TLJ examples. General ratings appear to be circa 3/5 with a few either loving it or loathing it, seemingly depending on your view of fan service.

Tbh, that’s kind of what I’m expecting - good but not great. Either way I’ll go and watch it at some point in the next week and stay off this thread until I do.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Worst Star Wars movie ever according to Forbes. Didn't think that a Star Wars movie could actually get any worse than Last Jedi but maybe Disney have actually made it possible.

I know you're all up still.
well,... There's a lot to digest and talk about.
A LOT!!
oh man... are we gonna talk.

i can't even score right now, cos it's borderline, and i'm a little drunk.
I know JJ had a tough job, after TLJ. But man, he's asking a lot of us the Audience.
It's just down to whether you buy it or not.
and i'm conflicted as a result.

So does anyone believe Jordan Hoffman from The Guardian giving Rise of Skywalker a glowing five star review after he gave exactly the same glowing five star review for Last Jedi two years ago ?

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/dec/14/star-wars-the-last-jedi-in-depth-fan-review-i-finally-got-to-see-my-dreams-come-true

https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2019/dec/18/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-in-depth-fan-review-the-thrill-is-tangible

Hoffman apparently "got to see his dreams come true" when he saw Last Jedi.

At least his mortgage is now fully paid of courtesy of Disney Corp.

Stringer it doesn't make you any less of a die-hard Star Wars fan to admit that this Disney trilogy is utterly bogus. I know the exact plotline of this movie already without seeing it yet and it sounds absolutely dreadful.

Shame on Disney. Kathleen Kennedy needs to be sacked and someone like Jon Favreau take over Lucasfilm instead after his excellent work on the Mandalorian.
