It's best to not draw any conclusions based on few matches in euros. Plenty of very good players have under performed and plenty average Joes will punch above their weight. So far though, nothing about Gomes have made me too excited.

Rooney is supposedly England's star player. I'm fairly sure England would do better without him.
Raul was Spain's star player but they finally started to win stuff when he was benched
Pogba is probably Frances star player but he's not exactly essential to them

As for new players this summer we need a few decent ones. Only DDG, smalling, Shaw and Martial should be guaranteed places in the side. That doesn't mean we need 7 new starters. But lots of work still needs to be done

He can't be classed as a guaranteed starter until we see if he comes back and to what standard.
That sort of injury may affect him permanently... Physically (pace, strength) and psychologically.

Neither of them players are even on the same level as ronaldo and when raul played Spain were hardly a good side. Spain were coming into their peak after raul.
william carvalho and gomes are no better than what we currently have.
they will ust be another decent players who fans will start complaining about this time nxt year. we already have too many of those. We need a top quality cm or none at all.

This Portugal side would be better off without Ronaldo IMO. Everything has to go through him and he seems the type to bring about bad feeling when he kicks off if the ball isn't passed to him
