Is it England U23s now? Have they moved that up from the U21s as well?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Its U21s, shall I blame my typing or my brain?

Can I answer that?

wow Ipswich have spent £5m over the years then.

Makes us feel like paupers we have only spent about £50m in the same period

Feel a McCarthy debate coming on for the 5,000th time in the last few years now the americans have arrived. Time to go out

Depends on whether you've already donned your leather gimp suit and gag ball before your night in with Denzel.

Not uncommon for a Chairman to put money into a club - and £5m isn't a lot these days. It'll be logged in the Directors Loan Account anyway - you can be sure of that.

Mick one of the favourites for the Villa job: http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-10-03/ipswich-manager-mick-mccarthy-among-favourites-for-villa-job/

Good to see Edwards getting top rating at the weekend. We need to extend his contract.

And again.

Anyone holding up Edwards as some kind of star after Sunday is absolutely mindblowing.

He was comfortably the second worst player on the pitch for 65 minutes, granted that was still miles ahead of Oniangue.

The only reason he got any praise is due to having a barnstorming 25 minutes to finish, but make no mistake he deserves little credit for Sunday, the midfield was criminal for an hour.

If I'd have said that, wolfie would be castigating me for being negative.
Having said that, I agree that out midfield was pitiful and I include Edwards. I went out after Norwich's second goal so didn't see the "barnstorming" last 25.

Joint top rating I believe (with Costa).

Mind you, seeing how Batth's performances have dipped after signing a new contract, maybe Edward's new contract should be delayed!

Think we are on the same page Cyp, i am all for happy clapping but give me something to clap about first.

That midfield display for 65 minutes was possibly the worst i have seen and if Oniangue isn't dropped and given a proper bolloking for that performance then we are done.

Dicko in tomorrow's Checkatrade squad to improve his fitness. Also are the dropped (sorry, rested), Saville and Wallace:

The squad for Wolves' Checkatrade Trophy trip to Crewe Alexandra is as follows:

Anthony Breslin, Harry Burgoyne, Nicu Carnat, Joe Delacoe, Sylvain Deslandes, Nouha Dicko, Bright Enobakhare, Ross Finnie, Connor Johnson, Ryan Leak, Andy Lonergan, Dan McKenna, Hakeem Odoffin, Will Randall, George Saville, Silvio, Aaron Simpson, Regan Upton, Jed Wallace and Donovan Wilson.

He wasn't the second worst player on the pitch. Danny Batth, who laid down the red carpet for Jerome to score and CBJ who gave the ball away frequently and was found wanting defensively were worse than him. Iorfa and Saiss were average as well, but Saiss is still living on his Newcastle performance and Iorfa is young so he gets let off.

That moment when Ikeme had to save with his legs as three Norwich players queued up to shoot in acres of space in our own penalty area, summed up how poor and ineffective our defence was.

So whilst I agree Edwards was ineffective first half and the first ten minutes of the second half, claiming he was the second worst on the pitch is a tad harsh when you look at the whole picture. Three of the defenders and the other two midfielders were at least as ineffective, if not more.

We lacked a focal point up top more than anything. I think the introduction of Dicko up front and Coady sitting deep allowing Edwards a bit more freedom to press and get involved in more advanced positions was the turning point.

posted on 3/10/16

Depends how you look at it Tam, but our defence was given zero cover and our forward line was given zero support or supply for 65 minutes.

42 touches for two of our three 'enforcers' is beyond disgraceful and Saiss doesn't get much more credit but at least did get up to 36 touches in that first half, the other two clowns literally may as well not have been on the pitch.

I expect Edwards to go missing at times as he so often does and i do partially blame Zengas pretty feeble tactics a little but Oniangue is supposed to be some kind of star but he didn't even look like a footballer.

posted on 3/10/16

I'm not really bothered whether Edwards was the worst, second worst or best of a bad bunch. Collectively, Wolves was poor and a disappointment following decent displays against Newcastle and Brentford.
The only player who impressed me at all was Costa.

I expected better from what I had read and for the £14 mill that we have spent on players from some of the top clubs in Europe.

We were miles behind Norwich for an hour and based on that, we have no chance of top 6 let alone the top two that I aspire to.

Win as a team and lose as a team. To single any particular player out as worse, equal or better makes interesting discussion but no more than that.

How's Southend doing Cyp?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Found myself talking to myself for two days on their board, but still got more sense in response than on here.
Anyway, it's Saarfend, not Southend.

Agree cyp, we need to see much more from our new signings.

Besides Oniangue who i think i have made my feelings quite clear about after Sundays game i also think Cav needs to do something more for his 'quality' and CBJ looks disinterested and Tex is clearly very gifted but in his defence i do think he is used poorly and needs to play central.

Gladon?? Pants!!

It concerns me how lethargic we look already and doesn't look far removed form comedy Kennys late days.

I also don't "buy" this new team bollax and the absence of a pre-season.
Whilst they were greater factors, earlier in the season when we beat Reading and Blouse and drew with Rotherham and Ipswich; we are now two months and 11 matches in.
Zenga has had ample time to decide on his strongest line-up, formation and should know the relative strengths and weaknesses of his players. What do they do all week in training!

posted on 3/10/16

Just because someone touches the ball a lot, doesn't mean the we're in anyway effective. You seem to rely a lot on that stat, but it doesn't mean a lot.

We gave the ball away a lot because we had no one to hold onto it up front. All the attackers wanted to run in behind every time we had the ball. So that's all we did, try and feed the ball in behind the defence and give it back pretty quickly. The midfield were never afforded the chance to get up the pitch to support the attack or get on the ball.

I disagree about the defence being poor due to cover from the midfield. The defence were slow to react and close down any danger all game. They made numerous schoolboy errors in the first half which the midfield can not legislate for. Their distribution was poor all game.

The midfield does have a slight bit of sympathy from me in that respect. They get the blame for being ineffective, when it is actually poor tactics, coupled with poor defensive work that cost us. It was almost as bad as last season to be honest.
