It was only a saga for that sad shower you call a board.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well no. It was a saga because you were repeatedly posting articles on our board
Some wear it voluntarily, but for those that don't, good point Terminator.
I wasn't replying to myself Terminator. It was the most excitement you lot had had for sometime. I strang you along for a few days I think.
As a muslim for I know there is no law in the islam were it says women should wear a burqa. Most of muslim women wear a headscarf.
@ Reddevilsdouble - Jesuispallister (U12215) I know you are a racist b@st@rd.
It's only 'voluntary' because they've been forced to do it so long.

It was you that was getting excitement out of it. We were bored to tears
Can anyone explain to me what a burkha is?
So why keep posting terminator? That is possibly the saddest thing I've ever read on here.

Ruiney, sells said nobody was trying to change our culture however, Women covering their faces is changing our culture?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How exactly is that changing our culture? They're not going round telling people to wear it, they're doing it because of their religion and if that's what they want to do then what's the issue.
Mane - doesn't Islam say they should be modest and this is one way of preserving their modesty?
And I'm no racist mate.

As a Muslim you should/will know what a burqa and niqaab is.
I'd you do you will know there is a Quranic ayaat saying wear niqaab and the 4 schools of thought agree but differ on its obligation. Some based on the ayat about hajj
I'm not saying it's an issue Xavi. Simply that it is Not typically a part of British culture.

The concept is called hijaab. However hijaab isn't just the head covering as many believe. Hijaab simply means to screen and is applicable to male and female.
Even houses have hijaab. So its not allowed to keep your curtains open at sunset/when the lights go on if you live in a terrace and people walking by can see in
So I was correct in what I said Zlat

Isn't British culture about freedom of speech, expression, religion etc?
FYI the niqaab (not burka) is not to be worn in certain situations. So security at airports, courts, banks etc need not worry as it has to be removed for ID purposes etc

I get that but you also said it was changing our culture which isn't true. It would only be changing our culture if the every day non muslim on the street began wearing one.

This issue is so complex these days. In countries like Iran and Afghanistan 30 years ago women were free to wear what they wanted and so feminists over there are protesting against having to wear the hijab.

Meanwhile in the West feminists are protesting for the hijab.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In Iran the shah was modernist ams people wanted an "Islamic revution" which saw Khomeini get in power
The issue here isn't about wearing or not wearing, its about choice to do so

Zlat - that the garments are worn out of modesty
Xavi - the more it becomes prevalent the more it becomes the norm and therefore part of the culture. Therefore changing the culture.

Yes it is an issue of modesty. But as I said the issue isn't just for women
Also worth noting the burkha isn't a face veil per se.
The burqa is a form of clothing specific to places like Afghanistan. In places like Saudi and Iran, for example the clothes are abaya/thobe or chaadar respectively
The French burqa ban was weird because a) no one there wore a burqa and b) the niqab was worn by like 0.02% of Muslim women there
The correct word would be niqaab ban. But if like me in the winter you wrap a scarf around your jaw or even wear those Arab/mitary style check things it's a niqaab.
Or any bikers wearing those face things under their helmets are wearing a niqaab
Put simply what's banned I have never seen in UK part from malalas mum who has not been allowed to go to school and must walk behind her husband a communist
