I don't think Arsene gives a flying fack about the fans.

Disagree. If anything, the Arsene out plane probably made his mind up to stay.

Nah, think it's way beyond the money thing now. A nice stick to beat him with, but I think he genuinely believes he's doing what's best for the club.

And, the most worrying thing of all, he probably is.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you honestly think so? Lets say he leaves? Whats the worst that can happen? We go through a hiring/firing phase. If we get a bigger name like Allegri it may take a couple of seasons to get back to the top. Older players will go. So what?

Ever since we sold RVP has there been an resemblance of style philosophy? Can you tell me how Wenger intends to play and so recruit accordingly? Its like Fergie final seasons until the squad was gutted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No I don't think so. My point was, Wenger probably looks at the board, sees the lack of direction there and thinks by staying he at least gives us some semblance of a football club.

Without him, what the fack are we at the moment?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But are we in that limbo situation because of Wenger. If the board is forced to grow up and fail might not be a bad thing. Surely Wenger is fed up being abused constantly and for what? We are fifth and still touching distance of the top 4 and still in the FA Cup. I don't think we are going to win it because of who is left but we are there nevertheless and stranger things have happened.

That why I have felt if Wenger really cares he should say move me up and let another manager takeover with new ideas and coaches as it is on the continent. Bring in Alegri and I will work with him. That protects Wenger's ego because he is not being fired and gives cover for the board know-how.

Guess Wenger isn't ready to accept a more hands-off role, J99. The stories last week of Primovic leaving filled me with some hope of change a-coming at Arsenal, but even that was soon cruelly snuffed out.

Weird. It's like just clicking 'unfollow'? Just weird. I'm far from 'tribal' about this sh-t, but to just say one day - "enough's enough, I'm going to lend my hard earned sterling to a form of entertainment more deserving" is a bit odd. I completely respect your choice, btw, I just don't get it.

I am curious as to when you felt you weren't just following a "professional football club", when it was more than that and when it stopped being so.
----------------------
Let me break it down. As a fan there are 2 main reasons you follow a particular club a) it gives you a sense of attachment to something greater than just yourself (you can call it tribalism) which is fun b) it gives you greater emotional investment, which is also fun.

At the moment Arsenal as a club are failing to provide me with any form of entertainment. Not because they're not winning, but because they are so utterly predictable in their mediocrity (relative to their resources of course) that I could tell you what round we exit the CL, at what stage of the season we stop competing for the title, the number of PL points we finish on to within +/- 5 etc. For each of the next 5 seasons. It's like reading a book over and over again where you know the content word-for-word. There is no entertainment to be had, either good or bad. Even the defensive fackups like drawing 4-4 vs Newcastle or losing 2-1 vs Birmingham are no longer laughable, just routine.

Secondly, I used professional 'football club' in inverted commas. Not because I expect it to be greater but because I think it's barely even achieving that status as the moment. It's an organisation which sets out to make money through the medium of football. As opposed to an organisation which aims to be successful at football while balancing the books. There is no other conclusion to draw than this when you see the club award another contract extension to a habitual failure of a manager whose only saving grace is that he guarantees you unwavering consistency.

Stopping my support is not some sort of gimmick aimed at forcing the club into action (it obviously won't), it is more a reflection on how stale the entertainment value of the club as a whole has become that people like myself can no longer stand to force themselves through the boredom of following it. I'd rather watch a team like Leeds who repeatedly make comical managerial signings in an attempt to propel themselves up to the next level than a club which accepts that it will always be also-rans.

And thats the delusion lex. Wenger thinks he is still regarded as a good manager across Europe. And he isn't! I don't think a PSG or a Barca would touch Wenger. Which only leaves the Arsenal offering the 8 million reasons to stay.

Which weirdly returns Arsenal back to their history of boring, boring Arsenal.

Think you just chose the wrong club buddy.

Almost completely agree with renoog's last post. However, I will stop short of saying I've stopped my support altogether - although I stopped supporting them financially a few seasons ago.

You know your club is in trouble when off-field matters are more 'interesting' than what's happening on the pitch. And that has been the case for way too long now with Arsenal.

And so, for the same reason I don't watch soap operas, Arsenal FC has taken up less of my time over the last few years than I think ever before in my life, bearing in mind I've followed them since the late 70s.

Now there are also unrelated factors as to why that has happened, but the simple truth is, as a club trying to achieve something beyond what we have already done, Arsenal have failed to keep me engaged. I simply have other things that have filled that part of my life now.

This isn't 'sense of entitlement' fuelled. More a 'well if you can't be bothered, then why should I?' thing.

Nah this phase of Arsenal's history is more like boring, boring Arsene. Would gladly take boring, boring Arsenal over that any day.

Blimey! Could have fooled me.

There's nothing to be gained by spending your time attacking fellow fans.

I know I'm a bit of a casual on this site, but I can tell we're all unhappy. We just have different solutions to the same problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, I've just lost a LOT of interest and joy in watching Arsenal for reasons mentioned in this article. It's painful watching the same thing EVERY season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty dramatic language there.

Other than Kroenke doing a Wimbledon and moving the club to facking Swindon, there is no reason great enough for anyone to lose interest in watching us play.

I know it's a clichéd thing to say, but we'd all still follow the club even if we found ourselves playing in the conference.

The thing is fans like Bats, Renoog and Lex are exactly what Arsenal need. Thoughtful intelligent posters giving intelligent reasoned arguments. To be honest Arsenal need people like you to stick around and create a movement. Albeit even with a backwater (no offence admins) like Ja606. Ripple affect and all that.

True realisation. If Mourinho/Klopp got boo'ed by own fans, their fate would be sealed. Arsenal fan's hire a plane to protest, and rumour is Wenger will sign a new contract. Arsenal fan's have zero power, we've become a 100% business club, not football.

As an outsider looking in I find the whole thing pretty unbelievable, I can't understand why Wenger still has a job.

I don't even understand why he is even held in such regard, his domestic record is ok not great, 3 league titles isn't exactly spectacular. His record in the CL is pretty bad, two semi's and one final just wasn't good enough with the team he had.

Not sure if any other major club on the planet would celebrate Wenger's achievements to the extent Arsenal do.

Im not even sure I would have him in my top 20 managers of the last 20 - 30 years.

Most people were more than happy as soon as the American Abramovich waved his wedge in our direction.

Some were even happier when he started his aggressive takeover via majority stake.

The club took a gamble and the pliable fan base has had to live with the results.

No use moaning about it if you don't have a billion pound cheque to buy Stan out.

posted on 20/3/17

Kroenke is the antithesis of Abramovich.

And it was by no means the majority of Gooners that welcomed his 'interest in our affairs'.

Could be just the fans I spoke to, but I got chewed out when I objected to his involvement " in our affairs".

Just wait until Usmanov makes his annual dig at Kroenke, and you'll see the flood of support from fans who want him to buy the american out.
