I remember an article on this a while back actually, think it was from stevie and at the time it didn't really get much thought due to the shock of the result.

There's two sides to it really, on the one hand it could mean less stricter rules for work permits for South Americans etc. Which would allow us to tap into that market at a much younger age.

In terms of European competitions, I don't believe it would affect us too much but it would certainly be an interesting development.

I think Sky and BT will just give you more money so no need to worry.

Then your clubs can give it to the players and their agents and everything remains the same.

Job done.

EU players could ave the same status as others which would mean that players such as Dembele may not get a work permit due to a lack of international appearances . It must impact on the strategy of clubs who currently seek to sign raw talent from EU clubs and honevggem and sell on for profit.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Homegrown players will get more time over the coming years as it becomes harder to sign a "foreigner"

However yes the bigger clubs can and possibly will do what Chelsea currently do and hoover up the top potential early on.

I just don't get this foreigner rule thing. A man who is good at a job cannot do his job somewhere on earth because his parents chose for him to be born and raised elsewhere

another problem is that any player outwith the UK (if given a work permit) will then also have to play in a certain amount of games for the team they are with in order for their contract to be renewed. Which in turn then may put them ahead of domestic players to be picked in order to renew a contract. for eg once Brexit is completed Celtic would not be able to offer Kouassi a new contract as he hasnt played regularly enough for the first team.

Unless of course the UK alter the current work permit regs. Other countries are much more lax on this , Rangers were the first European club to give Mario Jardel a trial and wanted to sign him but were thwarted by the work permit rules. He went to Portugal and scored for fun.

The stupidity is that there is no consideration given to the nationality of the player ..... so if he's capped by Albania or Andorra .. he's in !

For those with not enough international caps, they put together an advisory board made of former players and people involved with football who decide if the player would bring benefit to the game.

We famously had one such board with Jason Scotland who was refused a new work permit by luminaries such as Murdo MacLeod as he didn't have enough caps - he was banned from the Trinidad national team for not cutting his hair. He then went down to England, got a WP, and within a year secured a £2m move to Swansea.

Impact to the PL may not be as severe as many think, depending on *any* deal the PL are able to obtain. Given the vast wealth in the PL, suspect they will be able to lobby the government/EU27 for a preferential agreement. Which is what I understand they are currently trying to do.

The rest of the country will not be as fortunate however, and the lesser leagues will struggle to bring in players (and staff) from Europe.

Without FoM, loss/reduction of EU national benefits, (including employers) and increased visa controls, the UK will be a less attractive place to work for many Europeans.
