Hospitalisation have been between 5000 to 9000 since opening up currently 7315 as 7 day average.

To provide context January period it was 30k+, peaking at just under 40k

January period:
Cases around 70k
Hospitalisations 30k
Deaths around 1600 (peaked 1850)

Currently:
Cases around 35-40k
Hospitalisations 7k
Deaths around 120-150

Let’s hope that continues for the next 45 days
----------------------------------------------------------------------
even if it does continue we are still talking between 5 and 7 thousand people dying in those 45 days.

One of the things that concerns me is how the longer these things go on people become more accepting/tolerant/desensitized to people dying.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that might very well be the case with covid. What do you propose? Lockdowns every year? Social distancing 24/7?

Or is your point merely that it’s sad that more people are dying from this virus?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thinnk you'r response just proves my point
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it doesn’t, I just don’t have any crayons to help me explain it to you.

So it looks like a repeat of last winter but not quite as heavy after a quick look.

As a first step we need an actual strategic solution to the impact that this has on demand for NHS services. I’ve seen very little in terms of specifically how we’re looking to materially increase the number of doctors and nurses, and have been unimpressed with the infrastructure investment and the politicking around it.

If we start from a premise that it is unacceptable to have someone dying gasping for air because there isn’t a ventilator or sufficient care available. Non-pharma measures will help to reduce demand, but are blunt. Pharma solutions are extremely useful too and are the primary source of reducing demand (with both second order impact on supply by reducing case rates amongst NHS staff). However we really need to consider how we reverse the decline in supply in a sustainable long term manner. Without that I think it is likely, to avoid the situation I describe above re dying because can’t be treated, that non-pharma measures in some form would be necessary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally agree re: infrastructure.

One thing I remember I think it was Insert posted was about South Korea and one of their biggest successes was that they had proper separate areas within hospitals from admission onwards.

We got nightingales built then removed 😔

Nightingales were stupid on so so many levels.

From the positioning, the number, the size, the lack of staff, right through to the other end of the spectrum; the chronic underuse and the ridiculous removal of them whilst still in a pandemic.

Why anyone would trust Raab to write a Christmas card never mind an unnecessary bill of rights is beyond me.
He's thick as mince.

If this is about deporting foreign criminals, aren’t they likely to already be detained, and so all it is doing is freeing up space in prisons 🤔

posted on 14/12/21

It will probably cost more to deport them than hold them in prison.

I think the aim is to give judges the ability to act with common sense. To those abusing the human rights act undeservedly, career criminal types.

This isn’t to just push an anti-foreigner ideology.
