I just differ with others on what "living with it" will entail, such as widespread wintertime mask useage
========================================
I've just got used to masks.
On public transport, I may even continue to use one after Covid, like they do in some parts of the far-east.
I used to think they were a bit paranoid, but it's suddenly dawned on me how much shiite you're breathing in, in spaces like that.
Its effectiveness is obviously limited, but I've discovered that I really don't mind wearing it, and if it reduces the chances of getting a cold, it's cool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yup
i ware mask outdoors in winter when cold as it prevents cold air breathed in n causing asthma issues.

I've been seeing joggers wearing thick masks during winter in sub-zero weather for years.

I'm the same, and will definitely wear one going forward if I have a cold. And possibly through the winter regardless. I'd rather be at work earning money than off sick

this is interesting ^
These early national data suggest that Omicron is associated with a two-thirds reduction in the risk of COVID-19 hospitalisation when compared to Delta. Whilst offering the greatest protection against Delta, the third/booster dose of vaccination offers substantial additional protection against the risk of symptomatic COVID-19 for Omicron when compared to ≥25 weeks post second vaccine dose.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Away with your positive news please. It is not welcome here
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even Professor Pantsdown agrees:
"Overall, we find evidence of a reduction in the risk of hospitalisation for Omicron relative to Delta infections, averaging over all cases in the study period. The extent of reduction is sensitive to the inclusion criteria used for cases and hospitalisation, being in the range 20-25% when using any attendance at hospital as the endpoint, and 40-45% when using hospitalisation lasting 1 day or longer or hospitalisations with the ECDS discharge field recorded as “admitted” as the endpoint"
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/mrc-global-infectious-disease-analysis/covid-19/report-50-severity-omicron/
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How come these figures differ to the 66% you stated in your first post?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry - one was a study from Edinburgh University, the other from Imperial College.
Apologies for not being clear - two separate studies.
One says two-thirds, the other suggests 20-45 per cent.
The first is based on data from Scotland, the second I think is based on the UK more widely.

Fair enough.
One of my daughters has asthma, and I never realised how horrible it can be (we're so ignorant about each other's stuff until we see it for ourselves).
We live a couple of miles from a pretty polluted road, and I sometimes felt a bit guilty about that. Having said that, we've just renovated another property bang in central-London, and very close to an absolute carbon-monoxide trap (sometimes when you walk towards it, it feels like you're drinking it)...and she likes the renovation so much, she wants to move into it, when she finishes Uni.
So..who knows? Kids are guilt-machines, but it usually turns out they don't give a fk. I think she's permanently converted to mask-wearing, though.

Is it at all possible omicron and delta could become a hybrid with the contagion rate of omicron and the deadliness of delta?
==========================================
There won't be time.
Omicron is highly transmissible, & is ripping through the population like a dose of salts.
So it's probably going to get us (finally) to herd-immunity, without the death-rates (b/c it's much less likely to hospitalise you, esp. if you've had the booster).
Omicron is the end-game

We had hard winter in 2010 and I found it tough getting a breath in minus 9, especially pushing colleagues cars in snow, but we get it mild here most winters, unlike you guys.
Had breathing issues living in London, but beside sea in small town suits the lungs.

this is interesting ^
These early national data suggest that Omicron is associated with a two-thirds reduction in the risk of COVID-19 hospitalisation when compared to Delta. Whilst offering the greatest protection against Delta, the third/booster dose of vaccination offers substantial additional protection against the risk of symptomatic COVID-19 for Omicron when compared to ≥25 weeks post second vaccine dose.

Good news, it spreads like mad, but not as bad.

yer

i ware mask outdoors in winter when cold as it prevents cold air breathed in n causing asthma issues.
========================================
You did that before Covid?
It was pretty rare before Covid (usually only people from the far-east)...did you get funny looks?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
nope, not b4 covid as i am a dumb fook
i discover it really helps as when move from warm indoor air too freezing outdoor air, the shock can cause issues, not wheezing but short lived severe shortness of breath.
with the mask, the extremes r reduced n is grate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fellow asthma sufferer, and I wore a scarf round my face in real cold or on motorbikes and not just for football riots or street disorder.
Not that cold yet to wear covid mask against cold tho.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
it usually hits me when i exit work n walk too the car. ...especially after a meating someware else n i 4got were i parked! not one 4 scarfs so the mask works grate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We had hard winter in 2010 and I found it tough getting a breath in minus 9, especially pushing colleagues cars in snow, but we get it mild here most winters, unlike you guys.
Had breathing issues living in London, but beside sea in small town suits the lungs.
Have a good Christmas dude...work in 8 hours here.

Yup, those not getting vaccine are the main group ending up in hospital all over.
