I have no intention of banning people btw, this is only "my" thread in the sense that I hit the submit button on it. Got no time or desire to moderate. It should be a free-for-all I say <smile>

We can go back to the old thread though if it's easier. I think we lost some posters along the way so this thread probably isn't the best permanent home for the Election refugees

Renoog, are you a boomer?
Just asking as I once made that typo on the smile<y>
And was told it was the most boomer thing Blarmy had ever seen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha, not quite a boomer, I believe I'm technically a millennial

We use the Slack messaging app at work, which has its own emoji system, so I often get the code mixed up. That probably makes me a boomer in some younger people's eyes

George Carlin had a great sketch about how our use of language and bloated non-descript phrases has changed over time, it's a good watch as with all of his material

Excuse my stupidity, but did admin not close the thread with the intention of letting it remain dead...and we move on?

Not putting you or Admin on the spot, but surely exactly the same thing can happen if it opens up again?

I realise that can happen here too of course, so I am confusing myself here.

But you get my jist...we messed up and the ball was taken away.

Why give it back...what was the point?

There's a channel on telly here that caters to Zoomers.
Old Brit stuff and religious programming.
CARP have ads on the channel. CARP Canadian Association of Retired Persons. All they do is carp on about getting old.

What's the point of impeachment if he's not a sitting president

He can't run again in 2024. Think it also stops him from getting security briefings. Probably pizzed at that as he could sell Intel.

If it were your call - would you bother with this second impeachment attempt?

There's an old saying about justice must not just be done it must be seen to be done.
I think it should go ahead as doing nothing would be seen as some kind of tacit approval.
This argument that he's not POTUS anymore us bogus.
Makes me think if I drive through a red light but park and exit the car I can argue that well yes I jumped the red, but I'm not driving anymore. Clumsy comparison, but you get the drift. Not Tokyo Drift.

I think there's also the moral duty - especially for those who were injured and lost their lives for the trial to go ahead.

Not that it's a trial in the sense of the word, as his guilt will not be determined based on evidence but political allegiance.

I agree not being POTUS anymore isn’t a valid argument. I just can’t see it going anywhere, obviously I’m not privy to all of the evidence but I cannot see them proving incitement under legal scrutiny. For that reason, I don’t think I would bother as it will just antagonise the other side of the table.

On a completely separate note, I was just reading up on the first black American architect. He was extremely good and active from the 1920s through to the 1960s, did Sinatra’s house amongst others and building etc.
Anyway on of his niche skills was the ability that he created to draw his architectural drawings upside down as he knew that most of his white clients would not want to sit down next to him but opposite him. Jesus what a legend

‘ok fkface you don’t want to sit next to me, I’ll learn to do it upside down for your racist 4ss’

First black man in the national institute of architects in 1922 I think. Crazy stuff, wouldn’t have thought that was possible 100 years ago at all.

On that front we should expect the same for what was allowed to happen in the summer, no? Most notably the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone.

I was genuinely surprised when some people on here felt it was an unfair comparison to make with what happening on January 6 at Capitol Hill.
January 6 a few dozen people broke into the Capitol building and sadly 5 (was it 5?) people lost their lives. But this was a few hours in one day.
The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone went on for weeks as a police-free zone where people also sadly lost their lives. Mayor Jenny Durkan - should she be charged with professional negligence for allowing this to happen?

If it’s for morals then it should be applied equally imo.
