Don’t understand why kolasinac was able to get so much money out of us!

Two very, very different transfers.

Kolasinac was young and rated as the best LB in Germany, SL is 34 and a back up he won't be on massive wages

Didn't we pay Flamini more during his second stint, than he was making at Milan?

posted on 5/6/18

Flamini was allegedly on 90k/week at Milan and 60k/week at Arsenal in his second spell.

I remember people making a big deal out of it.

His first Milan contract had him on about £60k. (I had to check this, as Serie A wages had'nt really shot up by then). Then he got a massive pay cut to about £20-25k after a short extension.

"I’m a right back who likes to attack but I also know when it’s time to attack and when you need to stay behind. I have to put a balance between defence and attack."
- That will make a nice change.

We are going in the wrong direction.

That is a signing Wenger certainly would have made. Expecting change and improvement.

Wenger was famous for buying old players rather than giving youth a chance...

Panic signing

To be honest this transfer only makes sense if you assume that it is to establish a back channel to his brother's clients.

You could do with better but it’s an upgrade on Bellerin.

34! Is that a mistake?

Surely no team as much in need of a rebuild as Arsenal would begin by signing players over 30?

posted on 5/6/18

Why wouldn't you start a rebuild with a very experienced player with a strong personality and a track record of success?

The sort of player you most definitely would start a "rebuild" with.

Because the thing with a rebuild is you don't want it to collapse after a year or 2.

Dier, Dele, Eriksen, Davies and Sanchez. They were all in their late teens/early 20's when signed and we now finish in the top 3 every season.

Pretty sure we have enough youngsters

Also, we are after quite a few players - a "rebuild" isn't one player . These players range across the age spectrum.

Signing him is more about us having 1 right back than him being part of a rebuild.

Really don't see a negative in this signing tbh.
We needed right back cover, but it certainly isn't the position we need to really sort out.
Bellerin is a good right back, who can reach far higher levels. He lost some confidence and with it form. With an experienced player like Lichtsteiner to compete against for a place and learn from he may reach those heights. If not, in a year or two, we can look for a long term right back signing.

We also need a change in mentality in the squad, and Lichtsteiner is the sort of person we need. Hopefully it will rub off on the younger players and become embedded into the culture of the squad.

If he retires in a year or two it certainly won't cause a "collapse". That is just wishful thinking from our friend of no fixed abode.

And yet still won feck all because you're still lacking that experience and leadership to bring trophies.
It's all about balance. Having young players is great but only if combined with players who have experienced it.

This guy has won 7 Serie A titles in a row.

One of them was an Unbeaten season.

Great signing.
