Because they were the best team in the World 4 years ago and should have been a contender this time.
Any big team gets mocked when it flops - especially if England are doing okay at the time.
Are you serious?
Why all the mocking of the Germans? Clearly you don't know your history whatsoever
What is this mess?
They also knocked us out in 90/96 and 2010.
Germany especially so because they are the bad guys in most war movies.
especially if England are doing okay at the time.
-
england have had two very easy games and scraped by in one of them
i think england would have would have struggled to get out of germany's group to be honest three decent teams if not spectacular

But... England are through and Germany are out. Two wins from two. 8 goals scored.
I think it is safe to say England are doing okay...
Because Germany are a better footballing nation than us, we have small nation syndrome.

i think they also have about 30 million more people than england so you are small compared to them

They may have beaten us a few times at Football but we did help the Russians defeat them in the war!!!
To be fair it's a one sided rivalry.
I think the Germans find it mildly amusing.
The English take it seriously and get all angry about it, and the Germans ruffle their hair and say "there there mein friend, there there" then go and have one of their delicious beers while the English drink Carling and wet themselves and throw chairs and stuff.
Don't the Germans see the Dutch as their main rivals? And vice versa!
I think a lot of people wanted Germany to win it in 2014, I know that I did but that doesn't mean I want them to do well each time. It's a testament to how good and irritatingly consistent they usually are that makes it all the sweeter.
In regards to WW2 it doesn't matter if it was 70 years ago or 700 years ago the sentiment towards Germany across Europe runs extremely deep. I was watching the game in Greece yesterday surrounded by loads of Swedes and one German woman and they cheered as loudly when Germany were knocked out as they did for their own country going through.

The give me my grandad's bike back derby.
To be fair should have been expected. The Germans love a shafting on route to Moscow.

I know what you mean, but I don't see Germany as a rival. That's sort of my point.
They're not really rivals though are they, England and Germany.
Sweden are more natural rivals for England.

That was a tough night to bear. Should have won that game. I blame Gazza for being a tad slow!
Yh the sun today was digging Germany on the front and back page, quite embarassing really. I've no amnosity towards Germany whatsoever. Hating someone or something that are successful is just jealousy tbf.

Good point its like our rivalry (ROI) with England. They are the team we want to beat the most (The auld enemy as so to speak). However I would imagine if they were playing us in a WC game it would not generate the excitement that it would over here.
