True. But over a whole season Dortmund just needed Bayern to go off the boil a bit. PL usually requires a good 2/3 other teams to. Plus football has changed generally. Everton and West Ham are spending £40mil plus on players so messing around trying to find gems is wishful thinking.
Also a lot of the Dortmund success were academy players and they have an unusually strong ability in that regard.

We have been atrocious in the CL.
As for big players, we have never really signed the very top players. Some have gone that way after we signed them though.

Liverpool keep on doing it. They are there.
Most of those players were signed under Klopp not from the academy.
I think Klopp signed double figures in each of his first two seasons at Dortmund.

He won the league and made the CL semis with the team T Bag described in 2017.
Rybovlev started selling off his star signings in 2014.
Squad was massively different.
