Many scientists disagree with the idea of global warming, and human activity is not the cause and it is just natural.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Many" is a relative term.

General consensus is massively in agreement on man made climate change. This means that the "many" scientists that deny it are in a huge minority.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They have been laughed out of many scientific councils.

Their research is not credible. Spencer for instance has had to correct his data 4 to 5 times because he did not account for sea temperature in his models.

Considering the earth is mostly water, how he decided to not account for water temperatures is a mystery to any credible scientist.

Sadly... this thread alone shows that, while climate change effects are still mild, nothing will get done. Only when the true effects hit home will people stop being selfish (and blame anyone but themselves).

Global warming is just one of the symptoms of climate change which has been driven by mans activities on the planet.

I am amazed some people still think this is a hoax or a ruse.

To be fair there are people that believe the earth is flat

I read a fact that was something like:

A child born in 2010 shares the planet with 50% less animal species than a child born in 1970.

That is a mass extinction event, in just 40 years... That will keep getting worse.

Whatever your thoughts on climate change... Human overpopulation and a western lifestyle is a complete and utter global disaster.

All the things that would help address climate change (which you might not believe in) will also help the earth and it's biolife (the damage to which is fact, not up for debate).

It's a no brainer to try and address the issues we are creating, even if you don't believe in one aspect of the many problems we create.

The problem is that some people believe this issue is political and driven by the liberals.

People are doing their bit though, the other day I drove past our local council recycling centre and there was a queue of cars almost round the block, people who'd made that journey and were sitting there patiently waiting in their cars to do their bit

I have enjoyed the long hot spell though, and for now don't really want it to end yet.

Go and tell that to the countries causing the serious damage. China and India are still using unsafe and damaging fossil fuels on a mass scale, and Brazil are still chopping down the Amazon like there's no tomorrow.

Why do British people who are already up there in terms of sustainability, have to take responsibility for, on the whole, a problem caused by others?

Love the people criticising the Western lifestyle, yet are still more than happy to reap all the benefits from living in one.

Go and live in a hut with no electricity, heating, hot water or car then. Set the example for us all

What kind of logic is that? So if other people are doing wrong, we may as well all do wrong?

The west use countries like China and India as our proxy, we know they have lower environmental standards and utilise that... So the west still has plenty of blame, even if they are outsourcing that issue.

Because we're responsible only for the predictable consequences of our own actions. That's why we have to take action.

The lead cause of Amazon deforestation is animal agriculture. So any meat & dairy consumers here might like to look at what drives deforestation.

As for China, they're basically leading the way globally in terms of strides taken to ameliorate the issues that they contribute to. That said, there are some concerns that they've began, or are looking begin, to outsource some of their more unfriendly climate industries to nearby countries, meaning the issue just moves from one border to another. It's a concern, but in other areas, like I say, they're very much leading the way.

Poeple are criticising - rightly - the worst and most excessive elements of the 'western lifestyle', which essentially means rampant capitalism.

You should be too, if you're serious.

I never said the West is doing no wrong, I said people generally who mention global warming blame the Western lifestyle when that isn't the major cause. The countries causing the most damage are developing countries using harmful fossil fuels on a mass scale.

The person earlier who said why do people tie global warming together with liberalism well this is the reason. It's always white peoples fault, it's always Western civilisations fault. Due to political correctness these people are afraid of calling out the actual countries doing the majority of the damage and instead resort to their usual scapegoat.

"Because we're responsible only for the predictable consequences of our own actions. That's why we have to take action."

If the whole of the UK became entirely eco-friendly it would hardly change a thing. Unless scientists and politicians start calling out the actual major contributors to global warming nothing will change

Not sure the UK are a particularly shining beacon of environmental issues anyway. Most of our better laws are EU ones, which can be torn up soon. Our recycling system is dreadful compared to countries like Spain and Portugal. Our meat/diary consumption is through the roof etc

Because those countries are adopting a western lifestyle (whilst also being a proxy for the developed world)

So it's better if poor countries don't develop and stay poor?

That's not the point now, is it. Total strawman argument, yet again.

We blame the western lifestyle because it is consumer led and is the main cause to all these issues.
