Watching Stretty try manfully to sustain about 5 ever-changing, failing arguments against about 6 people (one of which is himself) has really made my working day less painful

True Detective (series 1)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Best show Ive personally seen.

Shame the MM/WH combo only lasted one season.

I'm glad it did. If they had carried on together for too long it may have spoilt it.

ep6 of TD was like a bad Mexican soap opera
ep7 of TD was like a bad episode of CSI
ep8 of TD was like a bad episode of The Twilight Zone

Disagree.

Genuine question. Has Daniel Craig actually made a non-Bond movie since Casino Royale that has been good/made any money? I can't think of any personally, but I'm interested to know.

More people have probably seen Fast and Furious 29 (or whatever number they’re on now) than this years Oscar winner for best picture, The Shape of Water.

Does that mean Fast and Furious 86 (or whatever number they’re on now) is the better film?

No.

True, but not relevant to which actor has the bigger profile, surely? I mean, the Rock clearly has a bigger profile than anyone making arthouse Oscar-winners, and most of the Rock's films are garbage.

I haven't seen it but The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is meant to be decent.

“True, but not relevant to which actor has the bigger profile, surely?”

It’s relevant to Stretty’s weird assertion that because Mandela long walk to freedom didn’t get huge numbers it was a crap film.

Even if it did crap in the cinemas, I definitely remember Elba getting a lot of praise for his performance. All adds to his profile, y'know...

There is a reason the rocks films make big money and he is the highest paid actor in hollywood.

It was specifically Elba that didn’t draw the crowds?

Have you got anything to quantify this?

On topic here - apologies.

Personally, I'd never heard of Daniel Craig before he was Bond and even knowing who he is now I can only think of him being in two other films. One of those was as a Stormtrooper in the new Star Wars and the other I can't remember the name of, huge stuff.

If Idris Elba takes the role, I've seen him in a load of stuff, including DJ'ing this weekend! Absolutely a household name.

more likely it wasnt marketed that much, it was british-sa film, not an american one

of course

still love TD tho but imo, the final 3 eps cuddabeen so much 'better'

I liked it and I'm not sure how they could have improved it to be perfectly honest. I've heard criticism over the villain at the end. Thought he was suitably creepy enough to work and be part of that same universe.

If anything it's the beginning that takes a little getting used to.
