I did laugh but maybe Keane could be an ace in the pack with this appointment, he deffo holds clout with Mon and it being week in week out football rather than the monotonous irregular international football might revitalise both them into a bit more forward thinking of the football needed to succeed in the championship rather than the not lose at any cost trying to keep a country happy and in fairness on the whole failing.

But add that both have the club in their blood may be just the right injection at the right time and with you hoovering just below the play offs could just be the catalyst for a proper manager bounce.

Pains me to say it though.

Wanted them gone long ago from the ROI job, really hope they fail miserably at the city ground and be great if it lasted at least 18 months.

If they could “hoover” enough points up between now and May to clinch a top six spot then I think we’d all be delighted!

Had you waited David Wagner would have been available. Miracle worker at Huddersfield, including getting promotion with a negative goal difference. Must be a better bet than MON. Do Forest want to crucify another legend?

MON was brilliant at Leicester. Made average players good and good players great. His team was all about organisation and motivation.

My worry is whether he is as relevant in the modern era. He was great at an underdog club, punching above their weight, but has had mixed success elsewhere. Villa, however, have never been as high since he left.

It will be an interesting watch as I'm sure he will get Forest players playing for each other. Whether that will be enough in these days of high wages, sports science and quality over effort remains to be seen.

Confirmed

While many fans wouldn’t gone this route, he’ll no doubt be supported by the faithful and has varying degrees of success on his CV. Odd situation though, and the second there’s a down turn in form the board will get involved.

Let’s see eh. Keane next to walk in?

From the excellent Henry Winter...

It is why attics remain filled with programmes of games attended in childhood, why there is a frisson of excitement at seeing a legend in the flesh, why the image of Solskjaer in the dugout at Old Trafford or O’Neill sitting in Clough’s old office is so emotive. So forget, for a moment, the modern trend of football for robots, of analytics, soccernomics, Moneyball, and expected goal stats. Instead, remember that the game is about hearts and minds, about people shaped by visceral qualities such as pride and ambition, about unforgettable memories and love for those who made them.

Roy Keane in talks to become assistant. I’m sure they’ll be concluded this afternoon. I am pleased. He always remembers his time at Forest fondly and I think that’ll give him extra motivation to help him and MoN become successful.

On the emotive side you won't be short of anything from O'Neill. Definitely proud, ambitious and very intelligent. Whether that's enough in today's game I really don't know.

Because of what he did at Leicester I have always followed his career and wished him success in every position he's taken. It won't be any different here.

I’m looking forward to seeing what he can achieve at the CG. Seems like he is really up for it.

Bristol City supporting mate is annoyed by MoN’s appointment and is fearing being squashed by the new manager bounce on Saturday.

I wish MON all the best, he’s a Leicester legend for what he did for us. I personally think he is past his very best and hasn’t been quite the same since John Robertson retired - but given time (and that is key) he could be a good appointment to get forest promoted. He does need time though.

Robbo still has faith in him. Assume the question was asked about whether he would come out of retirement to help...

“Every manager needs time, there is no shadow of a doubt about that and, quite often at clubs, they do not always get that time. It is the one thing every manager needs.“

And therein lies the problem with Forest right now. O’neill will be binned off if he doesn’t get promotion this season - which is probably one step too far when you’re building

Congratulations on getting a decent manager and a decent human being. Things are looking up for you. Now try to be worthy of your goos fortune and a good decision. And you have a good squad.

Still no word on Keane, although Pearce reckons Roy would love the assistant’s job at the CG.

I doubt Keane will come, he was famously on €700k a year as Ireland Assistant Manager, a part time role that allowed him to do as much media work as he wanted. He prob took home £2m easily with all his media gigs. Is he really gonna join Forest as full-time Assistant Manager on a wage of maybe 2 or 300k (absolute tops) a year? Its well and good being an Assistant to a high profile guy in International football but in tier two football you either are the main man or stay at home and coin in the cushy media work!

posted on 16/1/19

He will want to stay in the loop and that means going where the work is and staying relevant. Unlikely to get his own managerial role at the moment so needs to keep his face in the frame. Can’t really do that as a pundit?
