spanish media:

"Según Mundo Deportivo, basándose en el atestado redactado por la Guardia Civil, en el lugar del accidente que provocó el fallecimiento José Antonio Reyes, el vehículo que conducía el jugador del Extremadura circulaba a 237 kilómetros/hora."

Reyes was the driver, and was travelling at 237km/hr when the accident happened ...that's nearly 150mph/hr
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Moron.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
??? Why is he a moron? Several Spanish papers are reporting that Reyes was doing 237km/hr.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm talking about Reyes.

Why are road legal cars able to do 150mph in the first place? 99.99% of roads have a speed limit of 70mph max.

Makes about as much sense as guns in the US.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some people like to take them on a track
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some people like to go to firing ranges, or clay pigeon shooting. It doesn't mean they should be let loose with guns running around the city centre. Exact same concept.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just explaining why some cars are made to go fast

I didn’t know the circumstances of the crash.

driving at 140MPH + on a public road and with passengers...

It is reprehensible. He isn’t a hero, far far from it. It is still sad that he died but he was the perpetrator that ruined at least two other lives.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Driving at over 140mph on a motorway.

Tyre bursts.

Hits concrete bollard.

Car flips and bursts into flames.

Initial police report says car hadn't been driven for a quite a while and tyre pressure was well below limit.

Not sure how they can even figure that out when you look at the wreckage.

The first I actually learned of the speed he was travelling was when I looked it up online, all the news reports I've heard either on the radio/talksport etc or news has just said 'killed in a car accident'.

The only ones I feel sorry for and sympathise with are his poor family and friends, of his and his passenger, a young 23 year old man.

Feck Reyes, selfish idiot that could've killed countless others if he'd have caused a motorway pile up. Who actually thinks it's the first time he's gone that speed too?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Totally agree.

I had a blowout on the M40, scariest moment of my life. Was travelling with jnr to watch England v San Marino, and I wasn’t doing more than 65MPH road was pretty full. I was in the so called fast lane just before Cherwell services.

The rear left blew completely, car started lurching and I had no choice as I couldn’t control it for more than split seconds, and couldn’t get it over to the hard shoulder.. I put it into the central reservation where it is lucky the space at that section is wide enough to take the car. Axle got stuck under the central res so the car didn’t bounce back out. Got written off.

Single most scariest moment of my life.

Zero zero regard for Reyes the selfish facker, complete nob.

shows how the media narrative can sway people, this article is the 1st I've heard of his speed when driving, canizares is spot on as well, going at that speed is foolish and it might sound a bit cold but thankfully the carnage was limited to his own car and not others

posted on 3/6/19

Especially when the one doing it has such huge sums of money he could hire a whole track out for an afternoon if he really had a need for speed and wanted to max out his cars.

1...sad when any human dies it reminds of our mortality amongst other aspects as well as reyes leaving behind children too.

2...he was a fkn idiot and totally irresponsible. If it was a 20yr old kid from a sink estate everyone would be slamming him and reyes deserves to get slammed as well.

We need to seperate his action in this case and as a family man and footballer.

posted on 3/6/19

The fact he's a family man only makes me think less of him and even more of a selfish caant.

Unless you know of a way in which cars can be restricted when not on a track (or guns restricted when not at a range), then they're going to be "open" and it will be up to law makers and keepers to ensure that the rules around their use are effected.

You could limit them when not on a track by limiting them when not on a track. You can restrict guns to firing ranges by restricting them to firing ranges.

How exactly? And how do you enforce it?

To be clear, I do not anyone driving at excessive speeds should be dealt an harsh sentence but I don't see how your statement is in any way feasible. You'd be better off saying there are cars for everyday public road use (that are limited) and separate track cars (which is equally dumb). #justsaying

Sped? Probably. Double the speed limit? I don't know about that. There are limits to the things we do.

It's like saying, after sharing outrage at a pensioner getting beaten up and robbed, "nobody on JA has ever been in a fight"...

It's not faux outrage, I'm not outraged at all. Just not sympathetic.

If he was on a track and crashed at that speed and killed himself, I'd be sympathetic. If he does it sharing the roads with cars full of innocent people, families, babies etc then the only person I feel bad for are his family.

The roads are a safer place without people like him.

If the mass of the car is known you can use mathematical formulas to calculate speed based on damage done..

However I think there wasn't much science to it, they have traffic cameras on the roads and they'd just see how fast he went between two of them

Asking how something can be done means I'm against it? And am therefore a dick?

Just because Trump doesn't answer questions and resorts to childish insults, it doesn't mean it's a legitimate conversational tactic...

Like Reyes probably thought he was doing? Or did he know he was going to kill people by driving that fast? Having average speed cameras dramatically reduces the number of deaths as people can't just be selfish diicks.
