Nobody on JA has ever sped in a car
Christ, faux outrage, or point scoring is just odd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly my point. The guys on here are all angels.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doubt they've been responsible for killing themselves some other and wrecking another life through dangerous driving
See theres a difference between going 5mph over the limit and driving dangerously and recklessly.
So what speed is it acceptable to be going before we condemn rather than mourn?

You asked bud. Im not condemning anyway really but yeah, you go over the limit and crash then that's how it is.
Knew there'd be some tools trying to make out everyone sometimes goes over the limit a tad and defending him.
I know a fair few mates who subscribe to the five and drive nonsense. I hate it.
Do they get condemned? Not really..... unless they crash.
I'm not defending him. I will still mourn his death regardless of what he did, reckless and stupid as it was.

Fair enough, but taking the discussion into semantics of how far over would you have to be, eg whats the difference between going 5mph over and more than double the limit? Pointless as it's not even close to being the same.

yeah also how was the speed he was driving calculated
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If the mass of the car is known you can use mathematical formulas to calculate speed based on damage done..
However I think there wasn't much science to it, they have traffic cameras on the roads and they'd just see how fast he went between two of them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fair play, I would just want confirmation on the calculation before I pass any sort of judgement.

Because I've seen comments like, there shouldn't have been a minutes silence/applause because of his actions. That's ridiculous.
There is absolutely no excuse for doing 147 in a 70 zone, that's Formula 1 speed. Totally stupid and irresponsible driving from Reyes.

five and drive
People behave the way the do based on expected conditions. Someone crossing a road for example will expect a vehicle to be going at around the speed limit so will make time allowances, sight distance allowances etc for that. If you are going at 90mph because the road looks safe to do so in your opinion, you are putting others at risk who do not expect you to be being a diick just because you are selfish.

What do you think of police caning it when on a call or when chasing stolen cars etc?
Is that okay ?
Or 90 yr old pensioners who can barely walk and see getting behind the wheel and driving the wrong way down a slip road
It's not the cars capability that's the problem, it's the person behind the wheel

Not sure anyone on this thread said "everyone sometimes goes over the speed limit so what Reyes did was acceptable"...
Where did you read that?
Someone tried to make the point that we can't say anything because we (presumably) all go over the limit. The response has generally been that there's a difference between going a few mph over the limit versus double. No defence of Reyes in any of that.

I think sarcastically calling everyone on here 'angels' or claiming faux outrage because people likely have been over the speed limit in their lifetimes is making light of just how fast or reckless he was going.

I think you answered your own question there regarding why you should stick to the speed limit.
Regarding emergency services, I am conflicted. That is the expected behaviour of these vehicles, when you hear or see the sirens. It's about predictability. But sometimes they travel needlessly fast in areas with high levels of unpredictability. Where there are high levels of pedestrians for example.
Maybe these old people just think they are using common sense like you do?
To me yes/no
Say Reyes was only driving 145mph for a short time, under no influence of alcohol or any substances that influence your brain then it's an accident and rightly a tragic one given his achievements in his life.
However, with his actions (stupid, dumb whatever) he took someone's life that is unacceptable.
But, we all crossed roads at red signals..
