These people may and did know Kobe, so of course they're gonna tweet etc. His life means no less or more than mine or yours but we're not sporting legends. Well at least I'm not!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was one of he most successful sportsmen in history and a cultural Icon ffs.
Let people have a moment, jeez,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree
Celebrities if well known always get a major out pouring of grieve from fans and other celebrities.
Let's look at two examples from last year Justin Edinbrough and Sala , both died unexpected deaths but I didn't see any post saying the local hobo had died where's his post.
To some Koby was an icon , to others a hero , but let's not lose focus and that most importantly he was a father a husband , and someone's son.
What a terrible article. Shame
Why anyone would struggle to realise why people have feelings after watching a guy work his craft throughout his whole career, someone kids lived up to, is bizarre.
People won’t have an emotional tie to the homeless guy they’ve never seen or met (if a tree falls and nobody hears it). But someone who they idolised and who brought them moments of joy? Of course it will be big news. No different to Michael Jackson or princess di dying for some people
I feel sorry for anybody that dies, but didn't this fella bung somebody to get of a rape rap.

I agree with OP 100%
He was a famous guy I get that, and it’s a tragedy his young daughter also died. But end of the day, to me thousands dying needlessly due to homelessness or a bombing of a city, is much much more tragic and yet there is no emotion showed by literally anyone
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Any chance the OP could honour the deceased homeless gentleman by providing a follow-up link to the story?
Doesn't even have to be a known publication. Any mention of the story on Twitter would do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry - yes I will. Very sad.

I think your point, OP, would be better debated if it weren’t barely 24 hours since the incident.
Have some common decency.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think there's a reasonable debate to be had. It shouldn't be an either/or situation. There is space for people to care about both. Whether a public outpouring from people around the world for a random homeless guy is realistic, is another matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm. You say there’s no debate to be had and then go onto write two reasonable points!
It’s fine to have a discussion about these things but the timing is off imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really don't think there is a discussion though, unless you want to debate the points I made.
As I said in the OP - not judging, or calling or anything and of course it’s sad when someone dies, esp as children were involved
But others sporting celebs with false tears??? Just do one

I do voluntary work, with the homeless (and some park stuff) which is how I found about the dead guy. It just felt so wrong

Am pretty sure if the homeless guy had friends/family or people who admired a particular skill he had or perhaps if he had inspired some people am sure there would be outpouring of tributes to him too.
Am not really sure what’s difficult to understand here??
I suspect what you are really trying to say is why favour a celebrity over a non celeb or a “nobody”. Just come out with it then.

Tragic when anybody loses their life regardless how it happens. It shouldn't happen to anybody, but inevitably it does.
However, this one of the most famous sports stars of the last 20+ years, of course it is going to attract media attention. As sorry as it is, homeless men/women probably do die on the street everyday in less dramatic circumstances, which of course is awful, but this is a worldwide figure. That homeless man/woman will likely not be a worldwide figure and will have not just plunged to their death in an aircraft accident.
Unfortunately, it is a popularity thing. May not be right, but it is bound to grab more media attention. Don't get why that is difficult to understand.
I don’t know him, I don’t watch basketball so I won’t say a thing
As a family man I feel for his wife and kids, awful.
Weare judging everybody by his own gutter standards.
Was going to leave it alone, but the reason YOU don’t give a $hit is because he’s black.
And I’ll say it again.
If you’ve ever voted Tory, don’t bring your bull$hit crocodile tears about homeless people dying, nobody is buying it.
