Erm

Europe is the epicenter

US size = 9.3m sq km
Europe = 10.1m square KM

US cases = 80,000
Europe = 280,000+

US sounds like the epicenter to me

posted on 27/3/20

Europe has 2x the population of US and 2.5x the cases and given the lax attitude of many of those nations and the entity of EU cities compared to sparse in US, Europe is gonna have this far worse.

"It has also had the largest single day confirmed cases of 13,968,to put that into context, the UK has a total of 11,658 since the outbreak began."

UK have only tested 100k.

US have obviously tested many more as they have that amount confirmed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How many has each nation tested. Then confirmed cases, from that a percentage infection rate can be determined by population total. Until then, people are just saying numbers and personal opinions. Plus, the US is two weeks behind the U.K.

America isn’t the epicentre. They are just testing people and releasing true figures unlike the Chinese

“The mortality rate is way, way down,” Trump said. “The people that actually die, that percentage is much lower than I expected.”

Why in the world would Trump's U.S. approval ratings rise during this period?

He has never been more incompetent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

to be fair US death rates are below 2% which is a surprise at this stage given numbers elsewhere, even the UK is up near 5%
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Population density in the states is far less than most European countries.

Todays sharp rise in confirmed cases in the USA is showing the trajectory path which doesn'y look good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those big climbs are coming from large urban areas, NYC/NJ has loads of testing as well now hence the big climbs. The UK isn't in better shape at all in reality with little testing going on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The accuracy in the death rate is more of a true indicator of the spread of the virus,as per capita the USA is faring ok,but there have been huge jumps in confirmed cases and deaths over the last couple of days
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How you doing?πŸ˜‰

Great round of app!ause across uk last night, as 113 citizens were lost too😒

Just seen Bernie's Senate speech. I love that guy.

The POTUS the US needs, but obtusely not the one they want.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would prefer Bernie to Biden or Warren or Clinton, on healthcare and wages and taxation, primarilyπŸ‘πŸ˜„

Bernie is populist too....he opposed mass immigration undercutting American wages and rights, and until recently, did not play identity race and gender and lgbt politics like other DemsπŸ‘

BLM booed Bernie in Seattle in 2016 so he cant be all badπŸ˜‰

Dont understand why USA is now the new epicentre when Europe still has almost triple their cases. Top 5 EU countries +/- 240K over USA +/- 85K

Just seen Trump's latest comments on the ventilator situation:

"I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said for some areas are just bigger than they're going to be," Trump said. "I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, at a major hospital sometimes they'll have two ventilators. All of a sudden they're saying, 'Can we order 30,000 ventilators?'"

Why is it so hard for this bloke to just listen to what people are telling him for a change

I've heard that stated repeatedly (not just by Trump and his acolytes) as if it were fact, but the truth is it's a purely speculative statement.

What we do know is that the WHO has repeatedly commended China on how aggressively they set about tackling the epidemic there, both from the perspective of lockdowns and of mass testing. In fact, the decision to lock Wuhan down was actually contrary to the WHO's own guidelines at the time, was hugely criticized by the Western media, but has since been recognised by the WHO as being crucial in the response.

Wuhan lockdown began on 23 Jan. That day, confirmed cases reported in all of mainland China totalled 830. The entire province of over 50 million was placed on lockdown within a matter of days.

For comparison, NYC lockdown began on 20 March. On that day, the state of NY had reported 8356 confirmed cases. As of the same date, the US on the whole had 17062 confirmed cases.

The US has taken weeks in getting its testing capabilities up to speed, and mass testing in hard-hit areas has taken far longer to implement than in China.

Those are just a couple of known reasons to explain why the outbreak has been better contained in China without resorting to speculation regarding China's transparency on the issue.

Here are several other factors:
