I do think saying you’re ‘not far off’ Liverpool’s level is a bit over the top. In last two seasons they’ve won CL, PL and are pushing high 90s points in PL for both seasons. Only lost three times in that period: I know I’m just stating obvious facts..but when you sit back and appreciate it you realise how high a level they’re performing at.

its like ive said god knows how many times, i wonder how liverpool would have fared had

VVD missed pretty much the entire season

Mane fractured his back and missed a chunk of the season

Salah missed a couple of months of the season

you can guarantee they wouldnt have strolled the league, if in fact won it at all

posted on 10/7/20

VVD? Maguire has played every game. Matip and Gomez as 2nd cb have missed games between them.

Mane has played 1 game more than rashford. Salah 3 more.

Speaking of consistency, just did some quick maths and if you take the form of the last 5 games then you are 3 points better off. To make up the 34 points at that rate would take 10.3 cycles or 52 games. So if you carried on like this for a whole season you still wouldn't have caught up. MASSIVE GAP
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That might be true if there weren't a myriad of other factors that affect individual seasons. Of course it's a huge ask to over take Liverpool and even City and possibly Chelsea next season, but you don't start with a 34 point gap next season and I think we may surprise a few people next season. A decent challenge and comfortable top 4 finish would delight me, along with a trophy which is entirely possible

i never mentioned positions, more the importance of players to the club

The only position we are missing a world class player in is defensive mid. Has anyone been watching Derby's defensive mid they got in in January. Has completely transformed them and their players with his experience. Do you think we should be looking at brining him in to complete the team?

I think the feeling that we united fans are having will be similar to Liverpool sides such as 2008/2009 when you still hadn’t won the league in a long time as you hadn’t been consistent enough but the team you had put together was looking incredible.

I also think it’s a bit silly to say “yeah you’ve done well in the last 4 games” because it’s quite a bit more than that.

As Roy’s Keane pointed out it’s only consistency that we’re missing and that is an absolute must to win a title, hence Liverpool winning so many in the 70s & 80s, then is in the 90s and 2000s. But we have the youngest team in the league this year and we’ve barely had Pogba and Rashy has been injured for a long time too.

I don’t think we’re winning the title next season, we’ll probably close the gap but that’s it. But our trend is going very much in the right direction as the last 15 odd games show.

We’re a completely different team to the one that was having a worse season than Moyes. When you look at the table and goal difference etc it makes you realise how bad our season was until Jan/Feb. The last ten games we’ve outscored, conceded less and earned more points than the top team in the league all after a season that Moyes outperformed!

Surely it’s ok to get excited by that just as Liverpool fans did when they had quality sides?

there is currently a 37 point gap for a reason, I mean the table doesn't lie after all.

Utd certainly look better since Bruno has come in and they look to have a fully fit squad at mo which helps.

Greenwood also looks a talent

37 points though, come on now.

I would worry more about chelsea If I were utd plus you need to get top 4/5.

you cant keep using the 37 point gap ffs

leicester went from fighting relegation to making up a 40 point gap and winning the league.

after 38 games we are all on a level playing field again, your 35 point gap counts for feck all

hmmm

yet if the season started when it started again and we continued being 3 points ahead every 5 games we would be around 22 points clear on the final day

I think the point some are making is that the first 11 which is currently believed to be the best now, has played 25% less than your first 11.

while there would still be a gap it wouldn't be a 30+ point gap.

when you factor in your insane injury record, players hitting their late 20s, razor thin attacking back up, and a consistency of unreal levels which has frankly fallen apart since Atletico (could be just nothing to play for but it was going a bit awry during that CL double leg) there no guarantee you maintain that level.

you can beat your chests, you're champions, but this united team has a front line who are still kids, and improving, finally has two world class midfielders and despite what you call a shambolic defence, they haven't exactly massively underperformed yours in terms of GA

I think you might be overstating the gap between us in your mind

I think what we’re saying is Pranks is that a lot of that huge gap is a. Due to the ridiculous levels that you & City have performed at for the last 3 years but also b. The ridiculous polarised performance from us over this season alone. We’ve gone from sub-Moyes In the first half to a team that’s right up there in the 2’d half of the season. I’d be a lot more worried if we were consistently achieving the points total we have now rather thangoing from utter dogsheet to very exciting now. Something has clicked with us: Bruno, attitude, confidence, ability to break down teams.
Of course next season we could go on a sub Moyes run again and we’ll all eat our words but as the games tick by, that is looking less and less likely.

It's quite funny. Liverpool fans have waited all their lives for their first ever title and now they can't even celebrate and spend all of their waking hours having nightmares about United.

of course the table doesn't lie, we aren't talking about this season we are looking forward to next.

Pogba went from the highest goal scoring/assiting midfielder to missing basically the whole season.

Fernandes wasn't here, Greenwood has played ten games worth of football.

there were long periods of the season where our attack was James Rashford Lingard, supported by McTominay fred and Matic.

you can dismiss it all you want but int he space of a lockdown our entire front 6 is a very different animal.

imagine if your front 6 was Origi salah shaq, Henderson, keita, milner

and ours was what we have now? still 35 points ahead?

as has been stated many times, just look at the total minutes our first 11 has played compared to yours?

our front 3 has out scored yours yet missing a combined 30 whole games worth of minutes in comparison, Pogba has played less than 9 games, Fernandes joined 8 games ago.....

Most united fans on this site are pretty alright and reasonably minded. I can see this thread has attracted the minority.

I look forward to the end of next season and NOT watching united lift the trophy.

Liverpool may have had a good/lucky start to the season, which "won" them the league but there's no doubting that over the course of the WHOLE season, United have been the far superior team and the true champions.

Liverpool are an efficient, hardworking team. They may not be as pleasing on the eye as your United's and City's, but they've ground their way to the title so fair play.

posted on 10/7/20

I do have a serious question though....

if Firmino does so much for the strikers around him, why have they been outscored by 3 kids who have played 2700 minutes less this season?

he's clearly the weak link in the scoring stats dragging the other 2 down when compared to AM, MR, MG but surely if he was so effective at helping mane and salah they'd of scored more than the 3 that don't do it?

or if you had a proper CF would he reduce the goals the other 2 score and thus maybe render the overall 3 even less high scoring vs united 3?

It’s funny that you’re front 3 have outscored ours yet we’ve scored 16 more goals than United I total woth a ‘workmanlike’ midfield.
