The only one I can get remotely excited about is Pope, I’ll be honest.

We are also considering Declan Rice

I can’t understand the Chilwell transfer. He’s a good player but the price is insane.

Dunk could be a very good signing. He sounds like exactly what we lack in our back line.

If I had to Hazard a guess, none of Foster, Stones or Dunk will be signed (a lot of hot air, they wont be the first and certainly wont be the last of those type of rumours during this window).

Rice appears to be the main target to play CB, fits the versatlie profile Frank desires (I'd rather Ampadu is prioritised).
If he can't be signed we'll settle with our current CBs.

Stones will be 27 during the 2020/21 season. He’s hardly young and I’m not sure how much potential he has left to realise - think we’ve seen all he has to offer by now.

Pre-season is fast-approaching, starts on Friday.

What are chances that Havertz signs by then?

Yes I forgot about rice, agree that Pope would be a very good keeper for us though

Yes something we've sorely been missing since JT, cahill left

Dunk's not good enough, would be a mistake. Would rather stick with current options than sign Dunk.

Can remember many people saying the same thing when we signed Cahill. The club obviously think Dunk is good enough if the rumours of our serious interest in him are to be believed.

And not every signing can or even should be a huge name. This is the real world, not football manager.

Yes, give Dunk a chance,he is exactly what we need in the back line, he would help out the younger players like Tomori and Zouma and maybe even AC ,something I expected from Rudi, but didn't happen.

Cahill was younger and had potential to improve. Dunk doesn’t. He just isn’t a very good player. It amazes me dopey fans like you slag off the board for signing drinkwater, Bakayoko, Zappacosta etc but then we try to make a similar signing and you’re satisfied. Only then in 6 months when dunk disappoints for you to then again slag off the board for making the signing.

Who's the dope Wahl ?,listening to you, I have to wonder !

He was disrespectful first, I simply returned the favour.

Yep let’s not waste our funds on these average defenders that aren’t any better then our current set of defenders.

Wahl has a very good point. Also the difference with Cahill was he came into a defense where almost every player was a leader, we'd be buying Dunk at 28 y/o expecting him to be a leader to players with more pedigree & potential to grow than him, the dynamics of the transfer are backwards - making it a very FM like signing ironically (remember Jose Fonte was a must buy cos of his 19 leadership for awhile lol)

When we do buy a CB, I'd hold off 12 months & keep Ampadu, they need to be the complete package so they lead by example. The old fashioned leader of men from the back (e.g. Adams/Terry/Maldini/Puyol/etc...) are a dying breed, leadership comes more through performances these days & on the field Dunk's got nothing we don't already have - his simplistic, nuts & bolts defensive nature is Zouma effectively.

Regards to the others what Kunta Kante said (Rice included). Pope's the only one I'd get excited about & even that not giddy excitement.

The thing that Dunk has on his side is that he is captain material. Leadership at the back is something we have sorely missed this past year. We definitely need a strong presence back there.

We need a commanding presence at the back yes. We also need quality. I don’t think that means we have to bend over backwards to convince ourselves Lewis Dunn is ‘exactly what we need’. Or are we just aiming for any CB in bottom half of the PL who is commanding and captain material?

There's real Drinkwater aspects to the thought process here. There were good arguments to signing him too - the partnership with Kante, resembled Matic's role, etc... but they neglected the fundamental point that he simply wasn't an improvement in quality. Signing Dunk is falling into the same trap.

I don't mind us buying Dunk as long as we also get Upamecano.

I like rice but West Ham are not going to sell him at the price we want,

We may pay over the odds for Havertz but we wont pay over the odds for Havertz and Rice.
