John Higgins deserves to make it 5 titles and secure his legacy as the GOAT. It is not about quantity of titles for me. He was won his titles facing top class opposition rather than the glorified journeyman Ronnie has had to beat in the final.
I think Higgins should’ve won more majors but his world title tally is accurate
Ronnie has beaten them all on the way to the final anyway. Even then, I think the one final Ronnie and Higgins met in 2001, we all know what happened. Higgins never led the match once I think.
Let's not turn this into a GOAT debate, let's just all agree that both Ronnie and Higgins are world class players.
Alan McManus lost 6-3 and that's him off the tour
Yea Viva, Like in 2001..... 😁 & its all about titles, don't make yourself look silly now... Come on...
Barry Hearn please give Angles the wildcard tour card and not Jimmy
McManus announced his retirement from the game he made the decision in December that this would be his last season but he didn't tell anyone.
Very good player in his day Alan, always had him in with Ken Doherty, just behind the top for of the day, Hendry, Davis, Parrott, White
Alan seems a very likeable guy, think he would make a great coach. Has got good knowledge of the game.
Dont worry Wetherby im only winding you up re. higgins!
I like Higgins, & he's a great of the game, no doubt.. Top 5 of all time...
i liked both Alex and John Higgins
2 of the all time greats for sure
Never really saw Alex anywhere near his best....
Alex Higgins was before my time but looked a wonderful player.
Higgy was my hero - first time I saw him playing was in 80s in an exhibition in Belfast when I was about 8 or 9. He was well-behaved that day, and I got a signed picture of him. Such a natural talent, and what a waste of a talent. So many demons, and I recognise that he behaved terribly at times, but sometimes that's what we love in our heroes and he was the original people's champion. Inspired many like me to take up the game, and for me, produced the most memorable break the game has ever seen.
The only Higgins I remember is the sad one drinking vodka and orange, & arguing with ref John Williams, losing badly to Steve James & Ken Doherty...
Day 13 : Ronnie O'Sullivan v Mark Selby 2020 semi final 17-16 from 14-16 down, didn't seem interested much until that last surge... The final was a piece of cake...
Selby was 13-9 up, had a great chance to go 14-9 up and blew it, I felt at the time that could be a huge costly moment for him and it did prove to be the case.
Although when Selby went 16-14 up, Ronnie lost a few frames that evening where it looked like he had given up but he was clearly just hustling us all.
Been hustling all his career, can you imagine his records of he has Hendry & Davis's mental, will to win attitude...
2002 world snooker semi final- Hendry vs Ronnie, Ronnie made disrespectful comments in the build up to the match. Ronnie was defending champion and favourite, Hendry produced his old sort of form and ended up winning 17-13.
Unfortunately Hendry would have that disappointing defeat in the final, he probably thought all the hard work was done and took Ebdon lightly. Ebdon beat him 18-17. That final and the 1998 Masters final certainly have to be his worst defeats in finals and ones that certainly got away from him and certainly ones I have never gotten over!
1999 & 2002, Hendry's semi's, 2004 & 2008 Ronnie's... The first 2 were very competitive, the last 2 Ronnie completely dominated...
Hendry was past his prime from 2004 onwards though..
1995 Quarter Final between Hendry and Ronnie was competitive too and Ronnie was only 19
1999 and 2002 were great matches and Hendry pulled away like a boss
2004 should've been competitive as both won the QF 13-3 I think and Hendry smashed Ronnie in the British Open Final and also the UK Semi in the same season. Ronnie was just on fire in that match
2008 was definitely well past his best and Ronnie won comfortably.
Ronnie in 04 was totally impresious, like Hendry was in 1993... Although a 17 year old upstart beat a peak Hendry to win his first triple crown....... 👑😏
