Anyway, it’s a shame that England has decided to legislate in favor of those who get their feeling hurt.

My argument is about the principle of free speech in general, not specifically about racist speech.

This is why racially motivated words aren’t criminal offenses in the United States. What may be awful to you may not be awful to someone else.

Hate speech is protected in the US under the First Amendment. Why?

Justice Anthony Kennedy said the following: “ A law that can be directed against speech found offensive to some portion of the public can be turned against minority and dissenting views to the detriment of all. The First Amendment does not entrust that power to the government's benevolence. Instead, our reliance must be on the substantial safeguards of free and open discussion in a democratic society.”

Restrictions on any speech is a violation of rights.

Although title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 permits federal prosecution of anyone who "willfully injures, intimidates or interferes with, or attempts to injure, initimidate or interfere with ... any person because of his race, color, religion or national origin"

I believe Obama signed an additional hate crimes prevention act in 2009. You know better though, if it's cool to hurl racial abuse at someone in the States with impunity.
