I saw something before saying there could be a breakthrough in talks over the next few days.

Unless the nato treaty is revisted, we can only sit back
Putin knows this hence his moves.

Unpopular opinion but if Trump was potus rightnow im not sure this would happen. (The guy is a loop btw) but no chance putin does this with him in charge.

The Baltic States are all in NATO.

If he invades one of them then we're duty bound to retaliate.

Scary.

if Trump was stil "in charge", their is a good chance NATO wud no longer x-cyst n Ukraine wud have even less military resources availabul too defend emselves.

ur opinion s not "unpopular" so much as planely rong.

If we do nothing militarily Russia will overpower Ukraine

If we do intervene (we the West) we risk Putin authorising tactical nuclear weapons.

i'm going to pick option a) here, jeremy...yep, final answer, i'm definitely going with a)

52, what makes you think he'd only use tactical nukes?
And are you speaking of battleground tactics or city killer tactics?
I think their setting the stage for chemical or biological attack with all the reports (true or false) of labs in Ukraine.

Problem Putin will have, is the size of Ukraine, and the determination of its population.
Even if Russia were to install a puppet, that place will just be in revolt continuously, and Russia will eventually bankrupt itself through continued sanctions, over many years.
Without having an idea of the timescale, eventually those around Putin simply won't put up with it, and one way or another he will be deposed.
As far as expanding any further, not a chance in hell.
For all the talk of the size of Russian armed forces, they are a complete mess, and can barely function in terms of invading a direct neighbour, nevermind expanding on other fronts.
None of this is of course is of much comfort for the people of Ukraine, who will continue to suffer for the foreseeable future, but I have no doubt the clock is ticking on Putin, only problem is how many will die and suffer in the meantime.

If we do nothing militarily Russia will overpower Ukraine, install their own government and rule the country. It will be assimilated into Russia as it was before.

It won't be that straightforward for them. They may well overpower Ukraine but they'll be fighting a costly guerilla war for years.

They've miscalculated this massively I feel.

I'd be surprised at nuclear war, Putin can't launch them on his own.

Russia will not be able to hold Ukraine even if they take it. They don’t have the manpower it would take. It will be worse for them than Afghanistan.

Because I think he would be very strongly 'adviced against using nuclear weapons against Nato countries.
And B. Battleground tactics

How to learn?

posted on 13/3/22

it took them how long after crimea to move on this? highly unlikely theyll go for another anytime soon especially a nato country.

also even if they take the whole of ukraine without mass genocide its going to be extremely costly and deadly for them to hold it, especially if the west continue arming any ukranian rebels? It makes no sense from putin theyll need more than what they have now to hold all of ukraine even with a brutal regime implemented? ontop of all this, theyve got to invest in propaganda etc and arresting their own in russia, the loss from russians leaving russia and the increasing sanctions etc.

There isn't some unilateral big red button that says launch on it.
