He's been found not guilty in a court of law.

well, no
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He really hasn't, the charges have been dropped because key witnesses have dropped out.

He's used his money and influence to pay people off and make the whole thing go away.

Imagine the abuse he's going to get at away grounds? Probably too much for a 21 year old to handle to be honest. My prediction is he won't be the same after this allegation.

That’s a possibility not a fact

Spit roasting, kicking cats, alleged rapes, sleeping with teammates wives, drink driving, assaulting wives, racism.

We have seen some terrible behaviour from footballers over the years, and none of it has had a significant Impact commercially or image wise.

Il wait and see what the courts say, but if I were his father, I'd have given him a closed hand slap for putting himself in this position.

I'll look the other way if he wins us games and doesn't get rapy again

Wow. Just seen all charges dropped.

Further evidence come to light according to the BBC.

On balance, he should be given a strong talking to and played in the reserves for a few months.

My head says get rid in a heartbeat, but then I think greenwood was 20 years old when this supposedly happened.

I'm not trying to justify any of what he has reportedly done, but he is still a kid.

Too much too young?

People around him not giving him the right guidance... he wouldn't be the first young kid who has gone down the wrong path after receiving fame and fortune.

Part of me does think that there are plenty of people around him that have let him down massively.

Does he deserve a second chance... possibly..should it be at utd..probably not

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I get the point you're making but at 20 years old you should still be accountable for your actions. You should still know right from wrong.

To say a lot of people have massively let him down is hugely generous, almost to the point of removing personal responsibility.

The police have dropped the case so he has the opportunity to rebuild his life with (presumably) a tidy amount of money sat in the bank. But the tape is out there so I sincerely doubt that life will include EPL football. At best I think he goes abroad to play.

They said further evidence came to light, which may have seen the victim withdraw her Co operation.

I trust the system, and I believe in giving people (especially young people) a second chance.

I think its all a moot point - the sponsors won't let us bring him back anyway.

Not sure how we then get rid of him from a legal standpoint but im sure there's a way based on the reputational damage caused by the audio recording or something.

Yeh, I always said I can't see him playing for us again no matter what happens with the case. Something could still develop though.

He won’t ever play for the club, and rightly so.

He's done nothing wrong though....well in the eyes of the law he's an innocent man. How can they sack him? On what grounds? He's not been found guilty of anything.

We probably can't sell him either as who is going to take that grenade? Nobody.

I think the club will put him through some courses and eventually we will see him again.

How can you have trial by social media? What a mess it's been though and I feel sorry for Erik.

You have absolutely no idea if that's true though and yet you say it so confidently.

On what grounds can they sack him?

I suspect a lot of rival fans will 5 star this. Anonymously of course.

Bringing the club into disrepute. Manchester United do not need the same burden of proof, to cancel the contract of an employee, as the CPS do to go ahead with criminal proceedings.

so, in a shocking and unforeseen twist, those posters quickest to label pogba (gobby agent) or lingard (sells sh!t hoodies) as "toxic", are also the ones most willing to welcome back greenwood (hey, he's young, everyone makes mistakes).

what a turn up for the books.

Only 21?
At that age I was a qualified Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy on oil tankers, responsible at least 8 hours a day for the safe navigation of the vessel and safe supervision of cargo operations. I was also a trained firefighter, radio operator and medic. I had served in war-zones.
Many young men and women in the Services face action before they are 21.
Similarly our young Emergency Services staff experience frightening and stressful situations.
So being "only 21" is an excuse. Get real!

Very flimsy case and he'd probably win if he appealed as he's denied all charges and not been convicted of anything.

We are in a very tricky situation. Sacking him not straight forward at all. Selling him would be very tough.

Don't think this is as simple as you think it is.

Would any other big prem club take him? No. Would any other prem club take him? Doubtful. So why would United keep him? His best chance would be to rebuild his footballing reputation in another league.

Based on what we currently know, how can you possibly say this with such certainty?

Innocent until proven guilty.....he's not been proven guilty of anything, and now won't be.

We know so little about the inner workings of this case and yet most people are ready to completely write the guy off. What if, just maybe, he IS completely innocent and the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. Wouldn't it be sad that a young guy has had his life turned upside down over nothing.

Now I'm not pretending that the tape recording didn't sound dreadful (it did), but it's a few seconds and we really have no idea what was going on in the grand scheme. It's been looked into over the course of the past 12 months and now charges have been dropped, so that says something.

It's a really messy situation but I can definitely see that he potentially plays for us again, which in the eyes of the law is the right and proper thing to allow him to do.
