Interesting that Wolfie put 'fans' in inverted commas. Once again implying that anyone with a different opinion to him isn't a fan of the club.

Assuming he means the top half?

It’s a realistic assessment, given that we no longer have a proven “top” manager, let’s hope we have caught Gary on the start of his journey to be a top manager to the mutual success of him and the team / club

Amazing what a good dose of sunshine and sangria can do for your mood, after a week in aforementioned sister's caravan in Wales, rain, wind and carling black label, I cant say I'm quite as optimistic.

Keep the faith Goldie,
I'm trying too.

Hope I still feel the same this time tomorrow.

I read Jonny Philiip's latest article in the E&S, which if its as well informed as it appears to be at face value, sums up the current situation at the club pretty well. This is from a guy who was welcomed in by the club just over a year ago to front their propaganda videos and he's now basically saying that club's management structure is not fit for purpose. To be fair I recall that his questioning of Shi last year in one of the videos he brought that up and Shi dismissed any implication that there were any communication issues between Wolverhampton and Shanghai.

Have a look here: https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2023/08/12/johnny-phillips-wolves-need-to-be-one-pack-on-and-off-the-field/

I think there’s a fair degree of optimism in the squad and certainly anyone that went to the two friendlies last week would have been impressed.

The uncertainty is about the coach. Firstly because the change has happened so closely to the start of the season. Secondly because as O’Neil is an inexperienced manager it’s impossible to say with any confidence that he’ll be either good or bad. We have to wait and see. Although expectations of a positive result are low tonight, I hope we turn up and give them a run for their money.

After that we need to turn form around from last season in a way. We have a difficult run of home games against Brighton, Liverpool, Man City, Villa, Newcastle and Spurs. But opportunities for points away at Everton, Palace, Luton, Bournemouth, Sheffield Utd and Fulham.

Time to start judging O’Neil may be after those games and our league position at the end of November might be more about how many we win away rather than at home

I'm sure you and a few others are going to continue critiquing my remarks for yet another season Tammy, but I've been a "fan" of Wolves for over 60 years now and like a few other old timers on here, have seen the best and worse at our club. Yet every season I read from the same few, how bad we're doing when it comes to transfers etc.

I'm sure we're all disappointed with Fosun to a degree, after all their promises when they took over. However, I stated at the time that they were an investment company first and foremost and that one of their goals was to recruit young players and sell them off for a profit. Unfortunately their dream of promoting us in the Far East has somewhat fallen flat, which reflects on our balance of payments.

We have to expect a period of stability and with this squad, I am confident we can have some kind of success in the near future.

I didn't criticise your opinions. I criticised you using inverted commas on the word 'fans', to imply everyone who disagreed with you wasn't a real one.

I don't really care how long you've been watching Wolves. You aren't a better fan than someone just because you're older. Your opinion isn't more valid either.

With regard to that Johnny Philips article I will always go back to the moment when my concerns about Jeff and Fosun first emerged. That was when they sacked Dalrymple and Thelwell and didn’t replace them. From then it became totally Jeff Shi’s baby and with the best will in the world his knowledge of football and the football business is very limited. All good leaders of organisations have good teams around them that provide expertise, advice and guidance. Jeff decided he didn’t need any of that and I think Wolves will be on a rocky road unless he realises that’s exactly what he does need

Good point tam. Saw my first wolves game in 1954 but I don't claim to be the most knowledgeable poster on here.
I am but one of my many virtues is modesty.

Wolfie must be hearing voices or something as the mood here outside of Julen leaving has been pretty confident and positive.

Thank feck for Mendes as well, got some top players of his in this squad to hopefully get us to mid table.

I liked thelwell and dalrymple, was such basic PR but berry effective coming into the hogs head and buying "fans" drinks

Sunny what's the difference between a fan and a supporter

A "fan" goes to games. A supporter just follows the team from a distance.

So a fan goes to games and a supporter builds an irrational dislike of a few facets of the club and drills that point regardless of the situation?

Pretty much. Also, a fan has no understanding of the world at large, whereas only supporters can see the motives of investment companies.

A fan can keep you cool in a heatwave. A supporter is helpful if you’ve had too many pre game beers

Usually yes, but the inverted commas muddy the water somewhat 👍

Fans aren't much use in a heatwave as they merely circulate warm air.

As inconvenient as it is for 'fans', I'm glad this game is on a Monday night. Usually miss most games in the first month of the season due to playing cricket on Saturdays. Although there is potential that might have been a blessing this season.

gonna be heading out to the mountains in a bit so dunno if I will even see this one yet. Will see how the morning goes.

Hoping for a solid display even if the result doesn't match.
