Problem is, nothing will change. The big boys control the games, the officials and the money.
Modern sport I’m afraid.

Agreed. Just have to accept it and move on.

I think VAR was implemented to protect the interests of those at the top table.

PGMOL have already given Wolves an apology for an incorrect decision in not awarding us a penalty for Onnana’s foul on Sasa
----------------------------------------------------------------------

How many apologies is that in 2023? Must be up to 4 or 5 now. We've actually be robbed of quite a few points because VAR officials are either incompetent or corrupt.

I do think there’s an inherent problem in the way that referees are assessed. Refs like most people in the game are ambitious and want to be allocated the top league games, cup finals, be put forward for European games and internationals. The way they get selected for such games is to get good assessment marks from the top clubs. This shows they can ‘handle’ the occasions and means there won’t be complaints from the clubs when they are given those games. A ref who regularly gives key decisions against top clubs can forget being chosen for the big matches

True DJ.

Good point and clearly the system needs looking at
Can't solely blame the referee In this instance if he genuinely didn't see it, even though he was looking right at it.

VAR is the biggest issue, someone should have called him over to have a look, they're saying that they don't want to overturn too many onfield calls this season, then fair enough but as an assistant virtual or otherwise they should flipping assist. Anywhere else on the pitch that's a free kick so why is the box any different

How can they plan in advance to limit the amount of on field decisions they overturn?

If the decision is wrong, it's wrong.

I hate var but would support it if it was just used to correct clear and obvious errors. And this one was obvious

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Evidently not obvious enough though.

Obvious enough for them to apologise to Wolves for getting it wrong

But not obvious enough for them to get it right.

The referee, assistant referee and VAR referee from last night have all been dropped from the officials to be involved in next weekends Premier League games after their clanger in not awarding Wolves a penalty

posted on 15/8/23

Doesn't really help us though and they'll be back again in a few weeks time. They are never kept away for long.

posted on 15/8/23

Doesn't help at all and will not stop it happening again and again.
I don't know what the answer is but surely now some serious discussions should take place.
Perhaps the answer is to scrap VAR altogether.

And because it was a yellow card for O'Neil it can't be overturned. Gary was ranting that it should have been a penalty and was booked. It has now been shown he was right but the yellow card stands.

That said what effect does a yellow card have for a manager?

Normally when a big officiating error occurs in a game it is difficult to show that it has affected the result. On this occasion, because it was so late in the game, I think we can definitely say that with the correct decision we would have got a point, and Utd would have lost two.

Not sure who would have taken the penalty though. Fabio?

Cunha has took penalties pre season

The Premier League have ruled that if a player goes into the crowd to celebrate a goal then it should be an automatic yellow card. Varane and Rashford went into the crowd to celebrate Utd’s goal last night but neither were booked.

Why do I always feel like I've been mugged when these things happen.

Oh yes, I have been mugged.

He had been subbed off by then.

I find it funny jon moss coming out and saying it was a penalty after his last performance

Forest are only in the Premier league because of his inept performance and the var team not even reviewing 2 clear penalty claims

It's always the unfashionable teams that get harsh decisions against them

Definitely a penalty last night and it would have been given the other way round

Bias towards big teams is ruining and tainting the beautiful game

Guedes returned to Wolves temporarily because while Benfica want to loan him again next season, they don’t want the deal in place before late in the window so they don’t have to pay his wages while he is injured.

But that delay might lead to the goalposts moving because reports in Spain are saying Real Betis want to sign him permanently. The deal would be a loan with a deal to buy him at the end of the season

That’s true. So yes maybe Fabio, maybe Sasa who has scored one and missed one in the Bundesliga

Liverpool have missed out on signing Caicedo who will be joining Chelsea instead. Some reports today saying they may make a move for Nunes as an alternative to improve their midfield

posted on 15/8/23

£40m+ for Nunes, £2m of which will be available to O'Neil for an up and coming winger for the academy.
