Trump wants to invade Greenland

Canada, Greenland, UK and the Panama canal.

How many states is that he's adding?

Canada - 10 provinces each a state
Greenland - 1
UK - 4 or 3 if he lets Ireland have NI.

A lot of blue states to be adding, wouldn't make much sense for a republican President unless of course he's got some plans on that front.

Who will be next on the menu, i'll go for Australia and New Zealand?

Trump will not invade Greenland.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.

</article>

For all of his very many faults, Trump did play peacemaker quite well in his first stint. It's about all he has going for him, but in the current geopolitical climate, it's something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, unilaterally recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the US Embassy there really helped calm tensions, didn’t it?

And ramping up drone strikes in each of Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan, resulting in increased civilian deaths and forcing the administration to cease reporting data I’m sure was all done with peaceful intentions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The revisionism about his first term is real. Four years ago in this internet, post truth, age might as well be going back to neolithic times.

The US will invade Greenland, spend $1bn then pull out with their tails between their legs.

The script was written in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The US rely on NATO for their military positioning throughout the globe, arms sales, trade partnerships, technology and coop missions.

Invading Greenland would be economical and geopolitical suicide. NATO proven it's ability to reinvent itself in the past, I expect Trump is laying the groundwork for something similar.

Although my country could absolutely crush and obliterate anyone within striking distance with our vastly superior air force and weaponry, we would just pay Denmark to take it over.

Perhaps we could take a page out of eminent domain laws in the US and offer them pennies to the dollar.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Denmark would kick your ass. You've never won a war on your own so I'm sure they're not sweating.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

War of 1812? Mexican-American War?

Also, the amount of US enlisted servicemen is about half the population of Denmark.

We have the largest Air Force in the world. The US could carpet bomb Denmark to look like Gaza overnight if we wanted.

Greenland will be ours soon. Take that to the bank.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You lost the war of 1812 you monkey.
And US military experts calculate 1 greenland sheep hearder is worth approximately 7000 us servicemen.

US military about to issue an update to the advice their GIs got in WWII:

‘Do not DRINK with the Greenland sheep herders. Do not GAMBLE with the Greenland sheep herders. Do not FIGHT with the Greenland sheep herders. THEY WILL WIN!’

Many aspects of Trump's platform will result in economic suicide if they are implemented. Punitive tariffs on all trade partners would massively hurt the US. Deportation of millions of undocumented migrants would cause an economic depression.

Basically, the most optimistic readings of the imminent Trump presidency are based on the idea that he might not do what he says he'll do.

He had sensible people around him then, now he’s surrounded by sycophants and crazy people. The world isn’t ready for the shock and awe he’s going to unleash on us all sadly
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, he has a well prepared MAGA policy team around him now. He also has the overt support of tech billionaires. He has a MAGA majority on the Supreme Court. And he's palpably an angrier and more chaotic old man than he was in 2017.

Put most basically, he cannot square the fact that to meet his stated aims, he needs to devalue the dollar, something which he would never admit to wanting to do (even if he did, which he doesn't) and probably couldn't do, even if he tried.

Blanket tariffs will trigger some degree of market turmoil, which will inevitably result (because it literally always does) in increased demand for the dollar.

Worse (for the US), it might prompt China to finally take the plunge and float the Yuan as BRICS's equivalent of the Bretton Woods dollar. Which Trump really, really doesn't want to happen on his watch.

Cheese, wine/beer and humour, IMO.

Which leaves both the US and Denmark in serious trouble.

Canada is larger than the US. The US can become Canada's eleventh province.

Which it's fair to say was the case last time he ran, which wasn't a total disaster. It was good for my portfolio anyway, until covid fecked the world over.

Oh yeah, he only set the Paris Agreement back years, killed more environmental legislation than any other administration in US history, politicised the Justice Department, restarted federal executions, fired a raft of whistleblowers, used the presidency for personal financial gain, facked up the US’s COVID response and gave insane advice which undoubtedly caused American lives, excused neo-Nazzis, turned US allies away from the country, tried to ban Muslims from entering the country, stripped back healthcare insurance protections for some of the country’s most vulnerable people, demonised trans people leading to a nationwide spike in violence against LGBT+ people, repealed Roe vs Wade, stoked anti-American sentiment worldwide and then tried to incite an insurrection on Capitol Hill.

But not that bad, and at least your portfolio looked good for a while.

It shouldn't be necessary to add anything to that, but worth pointing out that there are far more extreme policy aspirations on the table than there were in 2017, and Trump's appointments to government are crooks and nutcases, where eight years ago he was surrounded by a lot of people who relatively sane, practical and to some extent moderating forces.
