Gary Lineker

I like Gary and his perspectives but I also see why others who might not agree with him don't? Seems a decent bloke and has his beliefs, obvs not a stupid man as well but in his line of work there will always be disagreements whatever he says

It's a total conspiracy that they control the media. It's just a coincidence that the second anyone says anything critical of Israel that they lose their job in the media. There are not patterns to recognise at all.

Yes, a good guy who won't be short of offers should he wish to continue in a hosting role.

Perhaps another broadcaster will snap him up? Someone that'll be OK with him having his views. If Channel 4 had a lot of sport that could be a good home for him.

Think he will just focus on his podcast with Shearer and Micha. The companies who show live football are in pockets of Israel unfortunately.

Fair play to him. I quite like him, but this makes me like him a little more.

I realize he's in a fortunate position to be able to take a stand, but so many people are greedy beyond belief that they wouldn't take any kind of minor inconvenience.

It is much easier to take a stand when you're already made (for several life times) but still very few of the rich and famous seem to on general which says a lot.

The BBC does seem to have lost its way a bit. I personally think that being politically neutral and impartial is exactly what they should be but so often it's led to them giving too much coverage to fringe voices on the extremes as if by giving them equal opportunity makes sense to those principles and, imo it really doesn't.

Beeb are a bit all over the place, they let Theroux make that documentary but they're also doing stuff like muting the boos for Israel at Eurovision, although I guess that could have been done by someone else and out of their hands?

In honesty I just don't think they like Linekar much, he costs them a lot and holds a lot of power so they're probably delighted to see the back of him.

The BBC has already pulled one excellent documentary on Gaza, and are suppressing another one despite a very wide and loud outcry about the same:

Whether you like him or dont, whether you agree with him or not, the issue I have the with the whole situation is once again, cancel culture. He should be able to have his own opinion which may differ from the organisation he represents, they don't have to agree with his stance but sacking someone because of it is oppression.

I mean he’s very pleased with himself but also clearly a decent human being.

The BBC should be ashamed of themselves, they have lost their basic principles (which was always going to happen when they started appointing Tory scvm to senior positions) and are not doing their job anymore.

He’ll not be short of offers and he’ll fall on the right side of history too.

The BBC need to accept the fact that criticism of Israel isn’t an act of antisemitism.

The Israelis might try and fool people into thinking that but it really isn’t

The BBC operates within a media political-cultural paradigm which broadly recognises any criticism of the actions of the state of Israel as antisemitic.

The real problems are the paradigm, those who created it, and those who, through inaction, continue to enable it, rather than the BBC.

If we lived in a world where everyone acted as a grown-up, accepted that we can have differing views without it affecting our ability to do a job etc, then life would be hunky-dory.
But that's not the reality, the BBC needs to be seen as being impartial whether we like it or not.
Everyone who works for them knows that needs to be the case, and if you can't accept that, well don't work for them.
It's not about whether Lineker is a good bloke, or even whether what he is talking about is right or wrong - he works for a company that has certain rules, and if he can't abide by that, then best he leaves.
It's just a reflection of the over-reactive world we live in, especially in the SM age

^ Parts of the answer to this are all of us speaking out against what’s happening, demanding more of our political representatives, and calling out and boycotting organisations (including news media) which continue to enable the genocide.

There’s a clip of a member of the Knesset circulating on social media at the moment, in which he boasts about the fact that (paraphrase) “We can kill 100 Palestinians a day, and the world doesn’t care”. At the moment, we’re telling him, collectively, that he’s right. We don’t care. Britain is actively supporting the genocide by delivering intelligence from recon flights, by delivering and servicing weapons of war, and through diplomatic means.

The only people who can stop this is us; it’s through our demands and pressure. Because without that, you can be sure that our politicians and business leaders will do nothing.

Impartiality goes at the window when your watching a genocide happen and times are SO different now anyway esp with social media, you can't suppress peoples opinions...not matter how hard you try.

I'd broaden this question. Across a range of other issues you see the BBC accept right-wing premises as the middle point in a debate. E.g. coverage of immigration in last year's election was framed around 'which party will reduce numbers?', not factually assessing the impact of migration.
