The BBC need to accept the fact that criticism of Israel isn’t an act of antisemitism.
The Israelis might try and fool people into thinking that but it really isn’t
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The BBC operates within a media political-cultural paradigm which broadly recognises any criticism of the actions of the state of Israel as antisemitic.
The real problems are the paradigm, those who created it, and those who, through inaction, continue to enable it, rather than the BBC.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lord John Reith?
Condemnation of the genocide in Gaza is pretty universal in the UK, the only supporters appear to be Right Wing nutters and Islam haters.
The Government seem to be doing very little to reflect the the thoughts of the electorate on this.
Lets get one thing straight. Linekar has been a good football presenter for the BBC over the years. But he has never been worth the gig money they have paid him (as a freelanceer) over the years. (Just add it up year on year, It's quite ridiculous how fabulous wealthy the BBC have made him over the past 20 years for basically doing MOTD the WC and EC and SPOTY. Which football supporter has ever said 'I must watch MOTD tonight because Gary in on and not Chappers or Gaby etc.'? (Most supporters might say I cant bring myself to watch MOTD tonight because my team got stuffed today... but, bless the BBC, it's got nowt to do with Gary.)

I'd broaden this question. Across a range of other issues you see the BBC accept right-wing premises as the middle point in a debate. E.g. coverage of immigration in last year's election was framed around 'which party will reduce numbers?', not factually assessing the impact of migration.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Absolutely. Unquestioningly calibrating output according to the current position and span of the Overton Window.

It's not about whether Lineker is a good bloke, or even whether what he is talking about is right or wrong - he works for a company that has certain rules, and if he can't abide by that, then best he leaves.
It's just a reflection of the over-reactive world we live in, especially in the SM age
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That would be all very well if it were consistently applied. For years Andrew Neil presented flagship BBC politics shows and conducted election interviews with party leaders. In parallel with this, he was chairman of the right-wing Spectator magazine, presiding over the publication thousands of articles that were politically partisan, and some that were overtly racist or fascist (e.g. look up the columnist Taki, whom the Spectator published throughout Neil's time as the boss of the editors). Neil was also far more prolific on Twitter during his time at the BBC than Lineker, and far more politically partisan: belligerently supporting Brexit and writing very disparagingly about politicians and public figures who disagreed with him. He eventually left the BBC: not because he had been forced out due to tensions between being a vituperative right-wing commentator on one hand, and the senior face of political journalism in the impartial BBC on the other. No, he resigned to take up a position as founding chairman of the right-wing GB News channel.
Gary Lineker is just a sports presenter who once in a while pops up and says something in sympathy with the victims of genocide.

Good for Lineker for being vocal on Gaza while so many other celebs who have the influence to get their views across stay silent. I think he made a genuine mistake reposting that tweet with the emoji and it’s typical that that is now the focal point rather than the 100,000s people being murdered while out government stays silent and even helps this genocide.

I like Lineker. I liked him as a footballer growing up as he was one of the top England and Spurs players around at the time when I was first getting into football, and I like him as a presenter. I don't always agree with opinions he shares but I don't really care so much.
The BBC continues to go downhill for me.
