I personally think lowering the voting age to 16 is madneas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you are talking to a 16 year old, and you are also talking to a 95 year old. Who are you talking down to like a 5 year old? Who has a better understanding of the current world around them? Answer honestly.

16 year olds wouldn't, I'm afraid. Time for the bin MU52. You had a good run. Enjoy retirement from voting. One less thing to worry about
I would like a vote on banning 16 year olds from looking at their phones 24/7. Especially when they are walking in front of me impeding my progress when I am trying to get about my daily business. They are so fecking annoying.

FFS was driving up north and had to get diesel and this 80 year old almost took me out coming the wrong way into the station. Then sticking the hose in and standing got ages trying to pour the petrol at the self service station. Then stared mashing a note into the card slot of the card only pump station. Then failed and drove out the wrong way. There been three old people incidents on my 4 hour drive.

FFS you surely have better ammunition than I ride my bike about town and can only afford a diesel van to drive to places that there is no public transport? I've given you like 14 years of stuff.
And yes of course I'd like to meet MU52 and TMQ for drinks cos they are top blokes. But if at some point they get too senile to drive, then they shouldn't drive. Not too controversial or personal.

Ah yes the good old days when you supported East Stirlingshire.
Nothing to say about stats on which group has more accidents and drunk driving charges?
So why stop at voting rights?
Why not extend it to driving licences, passports, credit cards.
Hell why not go full euthanasia?
Bloody ridiculous idea to bar older people.
If you're lucky - you might live long enough to grow old.
You say this, but you actually probably do agree that there needs to be a change to the system regarding older people and driving. My parents tried for ages to get my gran to stop driving when she had dementia. She was a danger to herself and others so had to get the doctor to lie to her and tell her she had to resit her test as 90.
But now that I discuss with the parents about when they would stop driving, they say it would be unfair to take it away from them.
I'm sure many of you have been through similar. It's not hating on old people. It's a very real issue that we face and is only going to get worse.
Retest at 75?
Still ignoring the stats on accidents and drunk driving stats.
Good for you, genius.
Drivers aged 86+ have a higher rate of serious accidents per mile than even drivers aged 17–24.
They just drive short distances like to the shop.
While older drivers drive fewer miles, their risk per mile of death or serious injury increases sharply past age 75.
Vision impairment is a prominent issue—42% of accidents involving drivers over 70 are vision‑related.
Common problematic crash types include failure to look or judge speed, particularly at junctions..
Those are some entertaining miles Janice is putting in it seems. Only drives a mile a week, but WHAT a mile it is. Carnage.

Where did you get those statistics from?
Give sources.
I do not believe them for a moment.
Even if Barry's stats are correct (which I doubt), you also have to consider the actual numbers involved.
There are likely to be far more 17-24 year olds driving than there are 86+
This is one of the few instances where statistically, the actual numbers of data points is more important than the rate.
I am 74 years old and still driving. I have given my adult children strict instructions that if they notice a dangerous decline in my driving to tell me straight away and I will stop. I also fully support votes for 16 and 17 year olds but think also we have to radically change our education system.
