This may become pretty close in 20 years or so.

As this never got answered earlier if they are allowed to vote then should they be tried as an adult for all offences from the same age with no public records being blocked?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A point I made in the real world earlier.

All in or all out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think that’s necessarily a terrible argument, but then I’d have (non-voting) 16 and 17 year olds nowhere facking near the military (like the rest of the developed world), and also continuing at least part time in education until the summer after their 18th birthday.

There’s kids leaving school at 16 to be exploited in shiiiiiit, underpaid work who still don’t understand the significance of important historic events, or even their basic rights, civics, politics, or economics. Which shouldn’t be happening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a compelling argument to give 16/17 year olds the vote then is it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that the education system has been allowing kids to leave school without the very same for many decades, it isn’t a compelling argument for British democracy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So giving 16/17 yr olds the vote basically allows another 1.5 Ill educated people the vote, not only I'll educated but not worldly wise either.Where do we sign up for this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
100 year olds or 17 year olds. Who deserves the vote more? Answer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not taking sides I am asking for a compelling argument to give 16 and 17 yr olds the vote they currently don't have
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, 100 year olds are allowed to vote...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm convinced,I am sure when they debate it in the commons and house of Lords they couldn't say no when confronted with that reasoning
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The unelected House of Lords can go in the bin while we're still at it.

Go and have one and see if you still have the same opinions.

The gov should be now letting 16 & 17yo drink and gamble and work in those industries - imagine the huge boost to the hospitality industry and excise coffers.

You're not doing very well at this. How about a conversation with the average 100 year old? They're all allowed to vote. Even 90+ year olds are mostly senile. A conversation with a 17 year old Vs a 100 year old? Just answer honestly, who is likely to be more switched on about current events? Forget numbers. Who deserves to have vote more? Look at it from a perspective that no one currently has a vote, so we are not giving or taking away anything from anyone. Blank slate, 17 years olds or 100 year olds?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah they don't have to worry about 90 year olds with these kind of things because they can't leave the house to buy booze and can't count to 12 so can't play cards, or hold cards, or have a conversation in most cases. But they can decide the future for 17 years olds.

They can join the armed forces. Travel across the world to engage in combat. And then drink and gamble to drown their sorrows.

But they get treated like kids when they come back home.

Look, I really can't be bothered with someone who is just itching for an ideological row.You can't win them. I would suggest you have views noone could change whatever evidence you are presented with. That is fine, that is how you are.

This fixation you have with old people, (who historically, but not always, are right leaning) shows everything I have just said above.

Go and do some homework. How many 100 year olds do you think vote? How many can even vote with their mobility?

Your issue is with the 70 year olds who don't vote your way. That is who you would stop if you had the chance.

Please feel free to keep going, but I'm done with this.

I don't care about ideology or the way people vote at all. I care more about equal opportunity and highlighting hypocrisy. I believe that a 17 year should have as much or more say than a 100 year old. If you disagree with that then fair enough. But you are avoiding making any sort of argument yourself.

Exactly. A contrived compromise that also applies to the minimum age for operating military aircraft and artillery.

Pick a legal age threshold and stick to it. An age where the law classifies you as either a minor or an adult.

Obviously a slow day for fooball when one has to resort to such trivialities as qualification for voting.

Clearly there should be an intelligence test required for voting.
Those too stupid to vote, at any age, should be banned from doing so.
And those who would vote Tory should be hanged, drawn & quartered on Parliament Hill.

Now then....who will volunteer to draw up the Voter's Intelligence Test? ......
