Former Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram has died of cancer at the age of 58.

Goram was capped 43 times for his country at football and four times at cricket - the only Scot to have played at the top level at both sports.

He helped Rangers win five Scottish Premier League titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

Goram was also on loan to Manchester United during the run-in as they won the Premier League title in 2000-01.

He was most recently goalkeeping coach with West of Scotland Football League club Cambuslang Rangers.

Born in Bury of a Scottish father, Goram signed for Oldham Athletic, then in England's Second Division, after his release from West Bromwich Albion's youth set-up and went on to make 195 appearances.

Sir Alex Ferguson had already handed him his Scotland debut by the time he moved to Hibernian in 1987 and he would captain the Edinburgh side for many of his 138 appearances before being sold to Rangers for £1m four years later.

The high point of Goram's stay at Ibrox came in season 1992-93, when the Glasgow side narrowly missed out on reaching the Champions League final but won a fifth consecutive league title as they completed a domestic treble and he received the Scottish Football Writers and SPFA player of the year awards.

Internationally, he was part of the Scotland squad that played at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups and Euro 92 and 96, but he walked out on the squad before the 1998 finals because of head coach Craig Brown's preference at the time for long-time rival Jim Leighton.

After brief spells at Notts County and Sheffield United, Goram signed for Motherwell in January 1999, helping them finish fourth in the Scottish top flight the following year.

He played twice on loan at Manchester United in their title run-in before a spell with Coventry City and a return to Scotland with Queen of the South, helping the Dumfries side lift the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2002.

After retiring at the end of the 2003-04 campaign following a season-long spell at Elgin City, he turned to coaching, with Motherwell, Clyde, Hamilton Academical, BSC Glasgow, Dunfermline Athletic and Airdrieonians among the clubs whose goalkeepers he assisted.

As a left-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler, Goram played for a series of local league clubs in England and Scotland before Rangers manager Walter Smith effectively ended his cricket career when he ordered him to concentrate on football.

Inter Milan have signed midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a free transfer after his contract at Roma expired.

The 33-year-old will become the first Armenian to play for the club.

He spent three years in Rome, initially joining on loan from Arsenal after spells with Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk.

"Very happy to join such a great club," Mkhitaryan tweeted.

"Will do my best and give my all to help the team achieve our goals."

Mkhitraryan is Inter's fourth signing of the summer after striker Romelu Lukaku returned from Chelsea, goalkeeper Andre Onana signed from Ajax and midfielder Kristjan Asllani joined from Empoli.

The international rugby series kicks off this weekend with Wayne Pivac's Wales arguably having the toughest test of all when they visit world champions South Africa.

Wales have never beaten the Springboks in South Africa, losing all 10 previous encounters.

The class of 2022 open a three-Test series on the back of a shock home defeat against Italy on the final day of the Six Nations in March.

That loss resulted in Wales dropping to ninth in the world rankings with the Springboks currently first.

South Africa will not be short of motivation either. Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld is a 52,000 sell-out and, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it will be the first time Springboks have played in front of a full home crowd since they won the World Cup in November, 2019.

Throw in the first two Tests are also being staged at altitude, which the Wales players will have to adapt to, and you sense the challenge that awaits.

Ten of the Wales touring party were part of the British and Irish Lions that agonisingly lost 2-1 to the Springboks 12 months ago.

One Lions legend, Phil Bennett, will be honoured with Wales players wearing black armbands.

The former Wales and Lions captain died in June 2022. Bennett excelled during the 1974 Lions tour of South Africa, starting all four Tests as the visitors beat the Springboks three times and drew once. Bennett also scored a try in the second Test at Loftus Versfeld.

British wildcard Katie Boulter's Wimbledon run was ended in the third round by a swift loss to France's Harmony Tan.

The 25-year-old world number 118 was aiming to join compatriots Heather Watson and Cameron Norrie in securing her first major last-16 appearance.

But she lost 6-1 6-1 in 51 minutes to Tan, whose fine run also includes a win over American great Serena Williams.

Tan will play an American opponent in Coco Gauff or Amanda Anisimova next.

"I think I may have seen it coming a little bit," said Boulter, who recorded the biggest win of her career over former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the previous round.

"I started to reach my emotional and physical point where I was struggling a little bit this morning in the warm-up.

"This week has probably been the tipping point. I've played some great matches. It's also been very emotional. I think today was one step too far for me.

"But it's a step forward in the right direction. I've got nothing but positive vibes coming into this week and moving forward for the next few tournaments."

Birmingham City have sacked head coach Lee Bowyer after 16 months in charge at St Andrew's.

Blues finished 20th in the Championship table last season, having won just four times in 26 league games after the end of November.

They would have finished lower but for relegated Derby's 21-point deduction.

"The board of directors believe this to be the necessary course of action and have acted swiftly ahead of the 2022-23 campaign," read a Blues statement.

"A replacement head coach and support staff will be confirmed in due course."

Goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall has also left the club.

Ricky Martin is speaking out and denying allegations of domestic abuse leveled against him in order to file a restraining order against the Latin pop star.

Puerto Rican singer was hit with a restraining order from an alleged ex in Puerto Rico, according to law enforcement on Saturday.

A representative for Martin, 50, called the abuse allegations 'completely false and fabricated' in a statement provided to People later in the day.

The protective order was signed on Friday, after authorities visited Martin's neighborhood in the north coastal town of Dorado to try to serve him, police spokesman Axel Valencia told The Associated Press.

The next Africa Cup of Nations will be played in Ivory Coast in 2024, and not 2023, Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Patrice Motsepe said on Sunday.

The tournament was to be hosted in June-July 2023, which is the height of the rainy season in Ivory Coast.

"We cannot take the risk," the South African said in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

With the World Cup in Qatar taking place in November and December this year, the decision has been taken to postpone the finals rather than bring them forward.

It means the Nations Cup will be held in January and February for the second time in a row, after this year's tournament in Cameroon.

In 2017, Caf announced that it would move the finals from their traditional January-February slot to June-July in a bid to avoid repeated disputes with European clubs forced to release players in the middle of the season.

"January is not the ideal time because of the European clubs, but it is the only choice we have," Motsepe added.

Britain's Heather Watson saw her hopes of reaching a first Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon ended in a straight-set defeat by Jule Niemeier.

Watson lost 6-2 6-4 on Centre Court in a match preceded by a celebration to mark the show court's centenary year.

Watson, who was played on every day of the tournament so far, broke serve at the start of the second set but was not able to maintain the advantage.

German world number 97 Niemeier, 22, meets compatriot Tatjana Maria next.

Maria saved match points and came back to beat 12th seed Jelena Ostapenko 5-7 7-5 7-5.

The 1982 Alabama gubernatorial election included the last campaign and final electoral victory of George Wallace. The election occurred on November 2, 1982. Incumbent Governor Fob James declined to run for a second term, allowing for an open election in 1982. In the Democratic primary, Wallace received challenges from Lieutenant Governor George McMillan, Speaker of the State House Joe McCorquodale, former Governor Jim Folsom, and Reuben McKinley. Because Wallace did not receive a majority of the votes, he advanced to a run-off with McMillan and then narrowly won the Democratic nomination. Montgomery Mayor Emory Folmar went unchallenged for the Republican nomination.

Wallace, formerly a notorious segregationist, renounced those views in 1979. On November 2, 1982, Wallace not only won the general election, but also over 90% of the black vote. Overall, Wallace received 650,538 (57.64%) votes against Folmar's 440,815 (39.06%) votes.
