Andy Murray loses to John Isner 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) 4-6

British two-time champion Andy Murray was knocked out of Wimbledon in the second round as he lost in four sets against American John Isner.

The 35-year-old former world number one clinched the third set to keep his hopes alive but fell 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 to the big-hitting 20th seed.

Isner, a 2018 quarter-finalist, fired 36 aces on his way to an impressive victory on Centre Court.

He will play 20-year-old Italian 10th seed Jannik Sinner next.

British wildcard Katie Boulter delighted Wimbledon's Centre Court with a stunning fightback to beat 2021 runner-up Karolina Pliskova.

After earning a 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 win, the 25-year-old fought back tears when revealing her gran died two days ago.

"I'm going to get so emotional. I'd like to dedicate it to her," said world number 118 Boulter.

Fellow Britons Liam Broady and Heather Watson also earned memorable wins on Thursday to reach the third round.

Wildcard Broady, 28, won 6-2 4-6 0-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 against Argentine 12th seed Diego Schwartzman to record his best run at a major.

British number four Watson, 30, matched her best Wimbledon singles performance with a 7-5 6-4 win against China's Wang Qiang.

More British success looked on the cards when Harriet Dart won the first set against eighth seed Jessica Pegula, only for the American to fight back to win 4-6 6-3 6-1.

British wildcard Alastair Gray, ranked 288th and making his men's singles debut at the All England Club, had chances against American 11th seed Taylor Fritz before falling to a 3-6 6-7 (3-7) 3-6 defeat.

The 2002 FIFA World Cup Final was the final match of the 2002 World Cup, the 17th edition of FIFA's competition for national football teams. The match was played at the International Stadium in Yokohama, Japan, on 30 June 2002, and was contested by Germany and Brazil.

After a goalless first half, Brazil took the lead through Ronaldo on 67 minutes, scoring after what German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn called his "only mistake in the finals". They extended their lead twelve minutes later when Kléberson ran towards the German penalty area before passing towards Rivaldo. He let the ball pass through his legs and it reached Ronaldo, who used his first touch to take the ball away from German defender Gerald Asamoah, and then shot the ball into the bottom corner of Kahn's net. The final score was 2–0 to Brazil.

Brazil's win was their fifth World Cup title, which remains a record.

Brazil's manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari, expressed "the joy of knowing we did our job", while noting that it was "full of very hard work". His German counterpart Rudi Völler said, "When you lose a game, the disappointment is great, of course. But it is no shame to lose against a team like Brazil."
