Nottingham Forest have signed Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin for a club record fee.

The 24-year-old joins newly promoted Forest on a five-year deal for a reported £17m.

Awoniyi scored 20 goals in 43 games across all competitions last season and becomes Forest's first international signing since gaining promotion back to the Premier League.

"It's always been my dream to play in the Premier League," said Awoniyi.

"Having spoken to [Forest boss] Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it's a club that I want to be part of."

After a season-long loan, Awoniyi joined Union Berlin on a permanent deal in July 2021 from Liverpool, where he started his career.

He did not make any first team appearances for Liverpool after signing for the club in 2015 and spent the majority of his six years with the Merseyside side out on loan.

Forest manager Cooper said Awoniyi was a player the club had been monitoring closely over the past few months.

Bournemouth have completed the signing of midfielder Joe Rothwell from Blackburn on a four-year deal.

As his Blackburn contract is about to expire, the 27-year-old will join the Cherries on a free transfer.

Rothwell came through the Manchester United academy before joining League One Oxford in 2016 and moving up to the Championship with Blackburn in 2018.

He made 41 league appearances last season, claiming three goals and 10 assists as Rovers finished eighth.

Bournemouth came second, earning automatic promotion from the Championship, and after Ryan Fredericks' arrival from West Ham, Rothwell is their second summer signing as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.

Canadian clubs cannot qualify for the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League through the MLS regular season or playoffs.

Local property developer David Clowes has had his bid to buy Derby County accepted and hopes to complete the purchase on Wednesday.

Clowes announced his intention to try to take the Rams out of administration on Friday after buying Pride Park from Derby's former owner Mel Morris.

Derby's administrators Quantuma said Clowes had now been granted preferred bidder status.

The news came as the Rams appointed Liam Rosenior, 37, as interim manager.

The 37-year-old will take charge when Derby report back for pre-season training on Monday following Friday's departure of England and Manchester United's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney as boss on Friday.

Rooney, 36, said the League One club, which has been in administration since September, "needs to be led by someone with fresh energy".

TV legend Graham Skidmore, known as the iconic voiceover artists of Blind Date, has died aged 90.

Blind Date, which ran from 1985 to 2002, featured Skidmore as a regular fixture where he recapped hundreds of answers given by potential suitors and was known as 'Our Graham' on the show.

His co-host Cillia Black would often drop the line 'well It's over to our Graham for a quick reminder' during the show, treating the audience to a recap of what the contestants said.

He was dropped from the ITV hit show after a 17-year run, with Tommy Sandhu taking his position in 2002.

It was black who gave him the nickname 'Our Graham'. Skidmore attended her funeral in 2015.

He was also a voiceover artist on BBC2's Shooting Stars with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

Before his television career, Graham owned a launderette, a corner shop and did up flats before going on to do voiceover work for Blind Date and Shooting Stars.

'He might not have wanted to be seen on screen, but he had a celebrity voice - a known voice,' his son Neil, 54, told The Sun.

Actor Frank Williams, who was best known for playing Timothy Farthing in Dad's Army, has died at the age of 90.

The star's death was announced in a statement on his dedicated Facebook page, which read: 'So sorry to say that our beloved friend, colleague and actor, Frank Williams, passed away this morning.

'He was almost 91, and we are grateful for all the years of joy, laughter and happiness he brought to so many. Thank you Frank! x'

Frank, who died just six days short of his 91st birthday on 2 July, appeared in similar roles to Reverend Timothy Farthing in the BBC television sitcom, as members of the clergy in You Rang, M'Lord? Hi-de-Hi!, What's Up Nurse, The Worker and Vanity Fair.

He once described his time in Dad's Army as the 'happiest period of his professional life'.

First appearing in season three of the show, he went on to act in more than half of the series and also featured in Dad's Army's two feature films.

He was the second-last surviving cast member of the main stars from the show - the only one still alive is Ian 'Private Pike' Lavender, 76, who is the youngest of the cast.

Johnny Depp is reportedly set 'to return' to Pirates of the Caribbean after being dropped from the franchise in 2018.

Fulham have made a 10m euros (£8.6m) offer for Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira.

The 26-year-old has been with United since 2014 but had his fourth spell out on loan last season when he joined Flamengo and played in the final of the 2021 Copa Libertadores.

Cheltenham Town have promoted first-team coach Wade Elliott to head coach following the departure of Michael Duff to Barnsley.

Elliott has signed a two-year deal with the League One club.

The former midfielder joined the Robins' coaching staff in 2020 and helped steer them to a highest-ever finish of 14th in League One last year.

The 43-year-old played for Bournemouth, Burnley, Birmingham City and Bristol City during his playing career.

"It's been a very intense couple of weeks but we believe we have arrived at the correct decision for Cheltenham Town football club at this moment in time," said Cheltenham chairman David Bloxham

"The board set out with a clear criteria for the type of coach we wanted and one of the key requirements was to try to continue the excellent progress we have experienced over the last three years.

"In the end, we believed that Wade's knowledge and understanding of the club, its staff and players made him uniquely placed to take us forward."
